Swing Arm Bearings
#1
Hello, new fazer owner (and biker) question, if I replace the chain / sprockets do I need to replace the swing arm bearing when I remove it or can I just re-grease them?
Bike is a 2002 with 3500 miles on it, chain has surface rust, been stood for ages and might need renewing, want to understand how much work and cost is involved.

Thanks
Jez

IMHO the bearings on the swing arm would be ok with a grease esp. at that low miles, i would check the chain for any tight spots and only replace if any were found, I find a quick paint of used engine oil is great for covering a rusty chain. Be careful of chain and sproket kits from Ebay as there are a lot of fakes about, I've heard some big boys on here say OEM quality is best. Hope this helps.
If you worried about falling off your bike, you'd never get on.

I'd regrease the swingarm pivot bearings and all those in the suspension linkage, but there's no need to replace unless there's noticeable free play in them. There should be no side-to side movement, a couple of millimetres vertical play is normal though.
Lube the chain and spin it round  for a bit, if there are no horrendous tight links it should be OK... it can hardly have worn out in that mileage. If it's been stored under cover and the surface rust is just due to condensation there shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks both, I'll keep an eye on the chain for the time being, no tight links that I have found yet.
