Starter relay
#1
I think my starter relay is on its way out on my Gen2. Been getting some starting issues,
This is not me in the video but it's the exact thing that's happening to mine....

https://youtu.be/XGi7yjGfNVE

Anyway my question is are all relays created equal? As the price of them seems to vary wildly. From £8.50 - £65??

I have found this one

https://www.motoelectrical.co.uk/types/s...gKVwvD_BwE

Which seems to be from a proper company but at £17 it's about £8 cheaper than most of the used ones on fleaBay? And a lot cheaper than the £65+vat I was quoted from my local yammy stealership

So it is a case of buy cheap buy twice or are they all pretty much the same thing?

Essentially there isn't a great deal of difference between genuine and pattern starter solenoids.
There are always a few that are crap but I have bought cheap universal one's in the past and they have worked fine.

:agree
Usually the problem is corrosion of the large copper contacts within the unit. It is with caution possible to open and clean the contacts

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first!!

I've cleaned the contacts before and had varying success. Easier to buy a new one.

Well that company was very good. The relay was £21 delivered. Ordered Sunday night and it arrived this morning.
Just fitted it and all seems well but only time will tell as it was a sporadic fault anyway but fingers crossed

Dodgy relays can be a sporadic fault for ages until you finally get so pissed off that you do something about it. Then you wonder why the hell you've put up with it for so long.
