Dread loss of acceleration at low to mid range

On my commute to work this morning I noticed a loss of power at low revs, put it down to the wet weather and the fact that I'd let the fuel run down to the bottom line of gauge.  :o  Got a full tank of fuel on the way home and the bike has been drying in the sun all afternoon. Unfortunately the problem is still there, however the bike still seems to rev freely in neutral. Desperate measures- a smear of silicone around the cracks on the card rubbers and I've even cleaned the air filter, lots of dead flies in there, the k&N filter is now drying in the oven. I only wish the wife was as filthy as that oven. Anyway fingers crossed. If this don't work, any ideas of what to try next?

Was it out in rain at all?
Check the spark plug caps are screwed on tightly for starters.
Have you done any recent work on the bike at all?
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.

You said wet weather, my bad.
It can cause all sorts of weirdness, as i've found simply washing the bike with a jet spray before.
What is your version of "loss off power" though?
Spluttering, bogging down, jittery, bit more info needed?

Yep it's been torrential the last two days here. I'd say it's more of a bogging down but the engine doesn't want to cut out at any point. I'm riding to work tomorrow so I'll get a better idea of what's happening.
I'm hoping I don't have to touch the carbs, i'm of the opinion they're best left alone unless absolutely necessary

avoid messing with carbs where you can - i love them and find it relaxing stripping them down but soon will be my job so i have my excuses
(dont worry guys discounts to foc-u members will be available when i get my new place doing sonic cleaning)

looks like you have done a ht cap replacement (angle on the photo looks vertical)
did you do that recently and did you remember to trim the ht leads slightly ?
a smear of silicone sealant on the ht lead outer coating before you put the cap rubber on can seal these better - i use grease sometimes if its a bike i am working on a lot but only because i dont want to seal it for long periods of time.

I wrote a big long answer but I'll give you the summary instead :lol I'd pop the spark plug caps off and take the rubber boot off them and dry inside the caps and then dry around the spark plugs. Then take it for a ride and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't I drain the carbs and maybe the tank. If it's still misbehaving I'd separate all the electrical connectors one at a time and give them a spray of wd40.

if it is on at idle/low revs and it clear at higher revs I would start by looking at the pilot jets or maybe some crap in the main jet.
If its misfiring all the way up the rev range, look at the leads/caps

Well it's still sluggish at low revs so going to try as all suggested- looking at the HT leads and plugs before I think about tackling the carbs, lets hope it's a quick fix. It's well worth a try before I mess with the carbs.  Smile
