Brought a 2000 FZS 600 in Costa Rica. Please help me restore the bike.
#1
Hi everyone,
I am new here. I live in costa rica. I brought a 2000 fzs 600 two days ago for 1300 dollars total. The bike has done around 40000miles and it is imported from Italy to Costa Rica by the first owner.

Below are some problems with the bike:

1. The bike fell inside the first owners house while he is parking and it has scratches on left side engine casing, minor dents and scratches on fuel tank and broken rear panel.
2. The front disk seems to have worn out and it makes a really annoying screeching noise when i drive anything above 20kmph.
3. The engine stutters/misfires when below 2000rpm. This is making it difficult to raid in traffic. Is this normal?

I love this bike and I want to restore it completely but the spare parts are not available in Costa Rica. Please let me know if I can buy them somewhere in UK and import them here. Also I am new to the big bikes so please provide me some tips on how should I take care of this bike properly starting from paint job to engine.

Disc may be worn due to sticking or seized brake caliper pistons.

Rough  running under 3000rpm can normally be resolved with a carb balance.

All of the parts will be available on eBay and should be able to be delivered by the eBay global shipping program, you should be able to get parts from anywhere in Britain , Europe or the US.

If the bike is running rough at low revs ,check the spark plug condition, check electrode gap , clean or possibly replace,  check air filter is clean ( if parts are hard to get and it is dirty try blowing it out with compressed air) check spark plug leads and caps are in good condition.
Can you buy fuel system cleaner ?? The carbs may be gummed up if it was not used regularly and this might help  what ethanol content is the fuel you use there ?? I know some South American countries ( Brazil ) use high ethanol content fuel is it the same there ?
Is the screeching noise coming from the brakes or is it coming from the engine ?

Wow didn't expect responses so soon! Thank you! I found some parts on ebay, i will order them.

The noise is for sure from the brakes and not the engine. Although I have been driving motorcycles since last 10 years, I am a noob coming to the repairs. I will make a list of all the points that you guys have mentioned and try to learn and do the checks myself. I would really appreciate your help here.

I have taken some more pictures. The radiator has lost some paint and some of the small metal squares seem to be pressed together. Is this a problem?

As long as the bike isn't showing signs of overheating then the radiator will be okay.
If you're really bored then you can use a small flat blade screwdriver and try and separate the fins, it's only very soft thin metal.
It will never look perfect again, so you could always look for a radiator protector to cover it up.
From previous experience i would guess that someone has directly blasted it with a jet wash to make it look like that.

When you are told  1. The bike fell inside the first owners house while he is parking and it has scratches on left side engine casing,
You are never sure f they are telling the truth but looking at your photo that does look exactly like a standstill drop ---- Ive got one just like it that I put there myself
