Android texts to PC backup
#1
Does anybody know of a good way to back-up text messages to my PC?

I have an S4 mini phone running android.  My PC runs Vista 64

Need to backup some important text messages.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Not sure it will run on such a crappy old OS but I think Samsung Kies software will do that.

Cheers BBrown1664

It says VISTA OK on the web site.
Will it let me dump some text history to my PC?

Does anybody back up texts?

Saw this - http://www.anvsoft.com/syncdroid-android-manager.html

I'm not the best with this technology stuff.

Got somebody mucking me about big time and need to back up the text messages.

I used an app called "sms backup" a few years ago when switching phones. It syncs to Gmail. It was a free app and easy to use although a few years ago now

I use a couple of Android apps - SMS Backup and Restore, and SMS to text

Thanks all.

Tried both android sync manager and kies.

The first just didn't work.

Kies installed fine, it all looks good.

But on connecting the phone, well nothing happens.  Tried turning on USB debugging mode, but no joy.

Rebooted phone and PC.

Was just about to uninstall andriod syc manager in case it was mucking up kies, but opened it up one more time.

It opened and connected to the phone.

I ran a text backup.

It's created a syncdroid folder in my documents, which contains a folder called backup with two notepad docs called adb_usb and version.

Inside backup is another folder, I open that and there is a folder called Sms and an XML document (which I can't open - it just opens IE explorer and shows nothing), inside the Sms folder is another XML doc called backupinfo.  The whole lot comes to 236kbyte

So is that it?  Has it worked.

And I take it the only way to see the texts is on my phone.  So if the phones loses the texts, or I lose the phone or it gets focced I just reverse the process?

Sorry this is all new to me.

I take it - if that is indeed a success, I should close the USB Bebug option on my phone.  I'd just leave the developer options available unless I really should close that too.  And then just backup every month or as required.

Does that all sound about right.

Many thanks.

Oh and Happy New Year to everybody, best for 2016 etc.

It's worked.

Can now see all my texts since I got my S4 mini in feb 2015.

One persons texts weirdly show as ########## but if I click on them they show in a wee window at the top of Excel.

Anyway got the backup that I need.

Thanks all.
