Question about triple trees for fork conversion
#1
Hi everybody.
I am considering taking the plunge and go trough with the fork conversion. My question is about the triple trees. They are dfficult to find and when you find them they are expensive.
Scoring the forks is more easy and I will probably fit the extension to have the same ridehight int the front.
Is it an god fit if you use FZ1 06 and onwards lower and upper yokes without having to make to much remodelling or work to make it fit?
I've read about the top yoke from FZ8 and wonder if it will be a match to bottom yokes fron FZ1
I am trying to find both top and bottom yokes and hope it will al fit. without to much hassle, espessialy since I do not have either an enigeneering dergree or access to
heavy machinery. If the steering stem must changes I have a friend that might be able to press the original stem into the new bottom yoke.
I know that Luke is a specialist in this matter but I will of course listen to all good advice form others as well.

I blame all on the fact that english is not my native tounge

Hope to hear from you.
All the best

here is the word of god regarding what you need to do.
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

fz1 top yoke is same as fz8 (i have both here so i know) fz1 bottoms are rare so look for 2007 r1 bottoms as these will also work, note if seller states 2007/8 and theres a lug on the yoke for the steering damper its a later model and wont work
mikes write up is the base line for the conversion and spot on but some things have evolved since then

speed triple risers are around but as I found they are few and far inbetween!

I got mine from germany for about £40.

Luke knows his stuff and has been a wealth of knowledge that I've called upon a few time now!

I've got a spare fzs1000 bottom yoke and stem if your interested.........

fz1 top yoke is silver with yam logo and I believe the fz8 is black without the logo (so I've been told)

can't wait to get mine fitted! just waiting on some small bits from us then mine will be going together!

Thanks for your attention.
I have read the fork conversion guide on foc-u.
One of my reasons is that the swedish vehichle inspection might make your life sour especially if there are notable changes .
One of those is of course difference in distance between the axles, a noticable difference in looks etc.
This is why I would like to have a Fz1 top yoke and  the best is not to have to cut the steering stop in the bottom yoke.
My wish is to get black forks use the black extensions in order to keep nosy inspectors at bay. The bike should look as much as original a possible.
I know it will require r1 wheel and spindle but those are quite easy to get at fair prices from us or the uk..
I will keep workin

Have you considered using non usd r6 forks?

Using the RWU R6 forks is a good option.  They're shorter than the Fazer originals so give the change of geometry that speeds the steering but without appearing obvious to an inspection tester.  Of course, if the inspector actually measures distance between axles, steering height etc, then you are likely to be found out.

To be honest, the easiest route is to spend the money it would cost to put an R1 front end conversion together on a decent upgrade to the stock FZ1 fork internals.  Lower the forks 10 - 15mm through the yokes and you'll more than content with the results.  Come annual inspection time, you simply raise the forks to standard height and sail through the test for another year.

I say this with the experience of someone who has spent the last 4 years dodging the same issue with getting my Fazer's R1 front end through Spanish inspections.  If I knew 5 years ago that this was going to be a problem, I would have kept my original K-tech modded Fazer forks. Smile

Hi again.

The idea with R& RWU. is maybe another way to go. I am not familiar with the with of the R6 forklegs, and I suppose I still will have to  change the top yoke all in order to
get them fitted and maintaining the original ridehight. If it's an issue with the ridehight, extensions might necessary.
All ideas are greatly welcome.

Another extreme, but expensive, way to solve this is to sell the bike and get a MT10.
