Hi Marco and welcome.

Do the easy stuff first - check the front sprocket for wear and the chain for tightness. If it stops when the bike isn't moving, it's probably either one of those.

Its possibly loose exup cables causing the exup valve to rattle.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

Hi and Welcome.

As a new owner of a Gen1 Fazer Thou you should bookmark Pat's site - http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/

I think you should be looking at the Exup valve, it may be loose cables as Nick suggests or worn / missing parts, as this area is often neglected / bodged. Give the valve a strip down and service and see what you find - http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/exupmaintenance.html

Another place to check would be the front fairing infills and wiring in this area, it is a common issue that these will develop a vibratory buzz / rattle just after tickover speed. A lot of owners apply self adhesive foam strips to the edges of the infills to prevent this but finding the exact problem area can be a bit hit and miss.

Either way I really wouldn't worry too much, these bikes are pretty bulletproof as long as they have been given basic care.

Ha, just had similar issues with my Fazer 1000, which roughly speaking sounded like a bag of small nails with clutch pulled in without any clutch issues, and I had similar comments to the ones you've received above in this thread.

Turns out to be the starter motor on mine. Not saying yours is starter motor, but it sounds similar. Located in middle of engine, although on the top.

Mine was a bit of a giveaway when I switched the ignition on last week (with no actual clutch problems), pulled the clutch lever in and it started the bike....kind of surreal feeling too, and that wasn't happening at first!  :eek

Maybe worth your while thinking about?

Hope it helps mate?
