Well, I had an FZR1000 in 1991, so that must have been light years ahead of it's time. The Thunderace was just a development from that, but actually, more of just a re-style.

Yes, actually it was old news :lol If you want to go technical: People had already built homemade Aces before Yamaha did -this bike is basically a FZR1000 engine in a smaller YZF750R chassis. It had vastly improved suspension and brakes though, ironically its huge standard fork was better than the USDs of its "parents" . The engine was same as yours only with a lighter crankshaft, forged pistons, NIKASIL cilinders, TPS attached to the new the carburettors. It has the best aerodinamics and ergonomics I know though.

It is also clear that Thunderace forums are very boring with just a handful of members. So relax

eeeew. a blue and black thunderace, that must be REALLY slow :lol
I went to look at a thunderace before I got my fazer thou, far too "sports" riding position for me. quite liked its looks though, although I hear they can use a bit of oil?

The contrary happened with my favourite colour in pictures -black/light grey. It made bike look worse in person. Ergonomically after a first week painfully building my wrists and small muscles that I didn't know they even existed I realized it has more legroom, do not make my buttocks to ache despite spending the whole day on it and keeps me better from cold air or mosquitoes. Add it has a much better sports performance and it is great. This and the Kawa zx9r are the only sportbikes for tall people. Add jacking up dogbones and you have endless ground clearance. Yes like FZRs most of them use oil, mine too. But my fazer did too so I'm used to it. Some people say it can be solved with GTS 1000 piston rings. I just stretch oil changes and carry a little bottle of oil under the seat as I did with the Fazer. |
