Just got my insurance renewal though from Bennets. I was expecting a bigger bill because of my accident last year which would have taken me from 4 years no claims down to 2 in theory.
Went through all the quote and it has my accident listed as it should, but 5 years no claims (which is what it would be if I had not had the accident). So, me being the honest chap I am, and not wanting to find myself in a position of being not insured phoned up Bennets and asked if it was correct.
Apparently, according to their records the claim was settled in my favour :woot (Don't know if you remember but I went into the back of a BMW after 6 cars on a dual carriageway anchored up for no apparent reason, thus making it my fault, surely, but like I said, not going to argue LOL).
Not wanting to pry too much I asked again, if five years was correct and he said yes. Not only that, when I said I wanted to shop around for quotes he instantly took £40 off making a year's insurance, fully comp, legal et al is £120
Money doesn't buy happiness, but it buys beer, and that helps!
Nice result, dont know where i am going wrong but to insure my 2004 fz6, with 9 yrs ncb, 3000 miles per year, garaged, no mods, cheapest i could get for fully comp was £210 from MCE.

Local broker recommended MCE as they no longer do bikes, they were on a comparison site I used and had nothing but constant phone calls, from two different numbers they use they came out about 12th on my quotes with Hastings Direct in at £75 and that included UK/Europe recovery, protected NCB, £750 for motorcycle gear, 10,000 miles plus a couple of other bits. Only thing was £20 set up fee and same again for legal cover.
Read some of the reviews on MCE and not a bad company but if you use comparison sites they can be a pain in the rear even if you say you taken out insurance some people where still getting 20 calls a day, still used my old mobile number and got it on silent and never answer it so doesn't bother me :b

Where do you live? That can have a major effect on the loading they apply.
Also what do you put for your occupation? See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insuran...ob-picker/ for instance, changing your job description can affect the price too.
Do you reckon the bit about it being settled in my favour is an admin cock up on their part? Seems very strange, I was the only one who hit anyone in the 6 cars that braked, I ran in the back of a stationary BMW, my fault 100% surely (in the eyes of insurance).
Like I said though, not going to question it with them any more though.

You can get postcode ratings here;
http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/pos...atings.php
These can make a huge difference as for example with the Gen1 thou;
Myself - 23, 2 Years NCB, C Class Postcode - £220~
Friend - 40+, 9+ Years NCB, E Class Postcode - £400+
That might help explain it, my postcode is rated as D*.
Yeah anything with * means that some insurers will either not cover you or may require further details / conditions to accept your policy
according to that site the * means the bike has to be in a garage.

Women have chocolate men have bikes.....
including ones who like chocolate....
Yeah, that's usually the "condition of acceptance" for most areas, but all insurers have weird and wonderful bureaucratic rules and underwriting criteria dictated to them which can result in them not being able to offer cover.
Nice to see I am an "A" in the postcode ratings, as is most of the surrounding areas apart from one place 4 miles away which is "B" and probably due to the chavs keep nicking scooters and either setting them on fire or smashing them up.
Had an interesting conversation with my actual insurers last year not the broker. I always used to put done that the bike was secure in a locked area but she advised me to change it to "kept on private property" as it made no difference to my premium but during the day is I left the bike out the front of the house, still on private property and it got damaged or stolen I would not be covered as I have basically declared that when it is at home the bike is in a secure locked area at all times.
