MPG ... again!!
#1
I ised my bike all last week and just done the rough calculation & I worked out i did approx 770 miles & it cost me £77 @ £1.32 litre thats 58 litre (13 gallons) so I reckon I was getting 58-59 miles to the gallon
is that good/bout average/bad ..
i know you have to look at riding style speed etc  so my journeys were Falmouth to Portsmouth 240 mile dual carriage way A roads & Motorway Sunday & Friday (just over 4hours each)
commute Portsmouth to Basingstoke 32 miles each way twice a day monday to thursday & once going up on Friday morning (40/45mins) on A3 Dual carriage way then A/B roads
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!

Sounds about right. I measured mine at around 62mpg during recent 960 mile Scotland tour, have had similar results during previous tours. So I generally look for around 60mpg.

I used to get between 52-73 depending on how I rode my boxeye. Averaging about 60 is really good Smile
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Yep, you don't have a gen 2 for economy.  I get 45 average which is ok for me considering the performance Smile

Christ, my gen II gets average 39 mpg on a spirited ride! Got 35 out of it once and fuel light was flashing at 100 miles!

Ah, I'm talking about commuting, so a bit more 'normal' riding.

On a spirited run would probably be similar.

I just fill it when the light comes on. Smile

I know I got 260miles on the 600 before the light came on once while touring two up and filled it 14 miles later :eek

This is my MPG chart: I get more mpg when touring, less when riding normally and a lot less when having fun :lol

Just under 47mpg on my gen1, 80mph cruising on trip to Cornwall. Was hoping for better (old zx10 was 55mpg) but I suppose the bike being only half fared is the reason.

The Suzuki V Strom gives me 67 mpg. Smile

FZS600 box-eye I average 58-60 m.p.g. with my normal riding. On a recent 1,500 mile tour with panniers and camping gear I averaged 62 m.p.g. but that was riding in touring mode.

Not sure it matters much, I have the full fairing on the Gen II and its still crap.

Fairing doesn't really have a lot to do with it when your doing less than 60.

Done a few geeky fuel consumption tests on various bikes, and stuck below 50-60 even in motorways. Naked, faired all Did better with the speed down.

Linked to MPG here how many miles do you get with the light on?

Also over the last 22 fuel up I have averaged 50.6 MPG

47 miles after the light came on in the south of France at 8pm.

We were on the motorway and 5 miles after light comes on the sign says next services were 30Km and 65Km ahead and it was 80km to our hotel, no panic it is only around 20 miles to the first one
Dropped the speed to 60mph and kept going.

Foccing services were closed for refurbishing  :eek

Right panic stations starting, every place off the motorway in France shuts down as 7pm  :rolleyes . Furtherest I had ever gone on the light was 32 miles and then I put 21 litres in

Stayed on the motorway and dropped to 50mph, coasted down hills and stayed in 6th gear

With 5 milles to go dropped to 30mph and finally I could see the services about a Km away and the lights were on just as the bike started to run a bit rough.

Pulled in to the services over an hour after the light flickered on, wife went to get 2 well earned coffees and pastries and I squeezed 22.7 litres of unleaded into the tank Smile  Thank god for the 22 litre foxeye tank Smile

We had spent the day on the Pyrenees and not an open fuel station in sight.
Rule number 1: before you go wandering around the Pyrenees fill the foccing tank.
I had filled the tank in Biarittz and went to the Pyrenees via Lourdes. Should have filled up in Lourdes. :wall
Chalk it up to one more adventure story to add to the collection.
