I'm just starting a new job which involves a pay cut so we've had to make a few cut backs. My Mrs suggested I don't ride as much (of course she didn't suggest fucking off her horse!) I'm thinking of getting some spuds and making some moonshine to try or fitting LPG tanks to save cash. Anyone else tried this? Can you fit a gas tank under the seat? Or wound it be better with 2 smaller ones under the fairing infils? Also what percentage alcohol does a foxeye run best on?
why not convert the petrol tank
Women have chocolate men have bikes.....

Have you thought about an engine conversion? www.dieselbike.net

In my experience it gets worse with every pint. :b
Broken, bruised, forgotten, sore,
too fucked up to care any more.
This is beyond me but I'm extremely interested in what you do with this!
You might need to rejet if you intend to run on pure ethanol, but distilling your potato hooch is going to require a lot of energy. You'll probably end up paying as much to your utility provider as you save at the petrol pump.
If money's that tight, switch your diet to one based on baked beans: they're cheap. Plus, if you drill a 2" hole through the seat of the Fazer and add a short length of pipe to the airbox, the resulting methane emissions will usefully enhance the mpg figure.

The net cost of the raw spirit that comes out of a still at 55% - 60% ABV is around £4.00 per litre.
So I don't reckon your going to make much of a saving going from petrol to alcohol.
Good idea The money you save on petrol can be spent on an engine rebuild when the bike blows up

I fucking hate horses. Dirty, stupid, unpredictable and only 1bhp.
Looking at it seriously, given that a Fazer does 40-50mpg, you might be better off selling it and downgrading to a 250 or a 300 that gets into the 90s. Maybe even a 125 that gets 100+mpg if motorways can be avoided. I know it's hardly what you want to hear, but if cash is tight at least it'll keep you riding.

Ethanol is the drinkable alcohol. Just for the record I'm only taking the piss about trying other fuel. Not really that stupid although it would be interesting to know if it was possible.
Years ago my dad looked into doing a LPG conversion on his Honda Deauville. He was doing about 16,000-18,000 a year. He did find a place that could do it (partly as a result of finding a place run by someone into doing up vintage bikes) and would have been able to fit the tank into a pannier. Besides concerns of not putting the weight in a good place as it might unbalance things the idea got scrapped as insurance companies weren't keen.
It was some time ago but at the time the place did think it would be a first.
Dump the wife, shoot the horse, cut him up steak size and put in the freezer (Tesco were doing it for years and we are all fine) :thumbup you can make good leather from the hide :thumbup and keep the fazer :woot
