I am off on my trip tomorrow.
My plan is to take the motorway from Glasgow to Penrith and stop there for lunch. From Penrith I will follow this route to my destination, which is Grange over sands. And that will be day 1 ![]()

So day one is over. After a long day in the saddle riding the dales and moors of Yorkshire, I am ready for a big sleep before taking on the lakes tomorrow. I plan to hot most of the roads suggested and will deffo hot the wrynose pass and hardlnott pass.
However, I have a question to the locals. What the hell is that white silt all over the roads? Its on my tyres lime chalk and its pretty slippy in the bends? Is it some kind of residue from an anti-iceing agent or something? Anyway, recommendations so far have been ace. Thanks

My trip around Yorkshire was ace guys. Thanks for the recommended roads. They were all good, although some better than others. I had a blast though. Lovely people in the region too

Nice one Adee, glad you had a good one. You got the hairpins on the Hardknott without any cars coming the other way, lucky bleeder! :lol
I did it going up the hairpins in dry conditions - going down in wet, slippy conditions must have taken some concentration :eek

I bought my red one in July 1976 and traded it for a Suzuki GS550 4 months later with 10600miles on it. The sales man came out looked at the clock went back into the shop and came out again to read the clock a second time. :lol

I also had a red 400/4 around 1979....good times!

Yes, those were the days when we had rear drums, one front disc with one piston and took a week to stop in the wet :lol
My brother in law owns the fore runner of the 400//4 an American import 350 four, I took it for a spin last summer and he took the Fazer, told him to watch the brakes on the Fazer. All was fine until he rode into the driveway, he locked up the front of the Fazer and it fell over on top of his leg. We struggled to lift off him because we were :rollin. When he eventually got up he only comment was "At least I have ABS on the 350" then he elaborated "Anything But Stop". Yes those were the days :lol |
