The Fzs 600 has a few weak points in the front sprocket nut, the exhaust, second gear and the rear caliper. Does the Fzs 1000 have any common problems areas?

Only that you need to regularly whip the EXUP valve out and lube moving parts and copperslip the bolts, otherwise one day you'll need to take it out and the bolts will have siezed.
There is also a thread about camchain tensioner failures. Not that common but it is happening.
Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

Rear shock isn't man enough IMO (easy fix is R6 mod)
Exup needs to be looked after, ( just needs to be kept up on service once It's sorted) Rear brake seems to need rebuilding each spring.... But that's because I ride all year. It's no sport bike in handling but can hold its own on road and track days once your used to it. I have a Zx6r right now and that's like a 2 stroke up against the fazer LOL but I jump back on the fazer and try to remember I have to muscle it round bends. ![]()

Yep, seizing EXUP and that's about it. I'd never heard of cam chain tensioner problems, after 4 thous, until I came on this forum! Manual tensioner is a cheap and easy fix tho'. (Oh God, I haven't started this on a whole new thread have I?! :lol ).

Wheel bearings on the front can fail quite early.
Easy fix. All the above as well. Whale

weak points of the fazer ! mmmm
top of the tree as everyone has said is the exup valve electrical connectors (especially the big one under the tank ) front wheel bearing rear wheel bearing rear sprocket carrier bearing ( normall for owners that jet wash there bikes) 2nd gear has been know to give up the ghost ! (but fairly rare, early well abused bikes ) also the gear selector forks are prone to wear or bend ( I think) Cam chain ( mmmm no more than any other bike but people are changing them simply because they love there bikes) rear shock front forks aren't great but adequate rear brake might need tinkering people like to change the gear selector to make the gear change more positive chain and sprockets can be munched on if not cared for a lot of people also change to a zx9 clutch lever too my biggest grip is the battery but its self inficted as I don't use it enough these are all minor issues unless your cam chain adjuster goes I'm sure there's more but don't be put off the gen 1 fazer is a great bike and you wont regret slinging your leg over it !

That's a pretty good record! Seems like a really solid bike. Most of what ye mentioned is service stuff so you can't complain too much about that.

Not very effective quarter fairing (take the screen off & look at the size of it)
Merely adequate suspension Slightly uninspiring engine in standard format (although not necessarily a 'problem') Flaking engine paint A few reports of 2nd gear failure Exup valve seizes & cables are $$$$$ and for me, the standard seat was a bit uncomfortable for anything other than short journeys Apart from that a clean bill of health, very minor gripes & I'd have another if the chance arose |
