Can I run against the pack for a moment and ask what is the big deal about raw carbon fibre? Yes, it says 'I'm light', but is a weave pattern that big a deal? Surely it's just a material like any other these days, titanium, aluminium, magnesium.


The most exotic part on a production motorcycle I know of is the magnesium subframe on the Multistrada, but magnesium's been around for years and you can't exactly see a subframe because it's got a fairing all over it, but it is a rare and exotic part.


Carbon fibre just doesn't feel exotic any more. It's quite commonplace. Now, if something was made out of carbon nanotubes, that would be exotic.



It's like chrome radiator guards - why would you want to make a feature of a radiator? It's not exactly a glamourous motorcycle part compared to a monobloc caliper or a shapely aftermarket exhaust and manufacturers go to enormous lengths to hide them because they spoil the lines of a bike.

Just personal taste AyJay. I don't like the silver rad covers on mine and the speed blocks in the paint are carbon effect so I thought I'd just complement the theme a little. The dipped carbon effect is also apparently very durable so should stay looking good for a long while. It's not just carbon effect they can do either - as well as having many designs on their website, they can produce your own designs too.
And actually, black carbon effect on the rad covers should make them stand out less!

I bought it brand new in 2004, which was about the end of the cheap USA imports as the exchange rate became too poor. I had had a USA import VTR1000 which I chopped in for the Fazer, It was about £300 - £400 cheaper than main dealer. Bikewise in Southend gave me top price for VTR (same as they were selling for in MCN privately). There is very little difference from the UK bike, no restrictors etc etc, so it seemed like a good deal.
