I think the topic name is a touch inaccurate it's more like "AA now have limited police powers".  :lol

I have no problem with the AA reporting people driving without seatbelts and/or talking on their mobile phone.  Speeding on the other hand would be taking the P**s  :evil

Id love to see how they're going to enforce that one! They cannot instruct you to stop, they also have no powers to detain whilst obtaining details, and as for speeding offences?
They have no calibrated Speedo or capture device, and I'm pretty sure they won't be sat in an office writing statements after doing a measured mile twice with a stopwatch.
I'd go to court and fight against any offence reported by AA staff, and I'd be pretty sure I'd get away with it too!

It would be better if the AA concentrated on improving their customer service, I complained to them after waiting 5 hours for recovery last year and I am still waiting for an answer. I even complained to Carole Nash who included AA cover in their insurance, guess who won`t be renewing  with them this year no matter how cheap it is.

I assum this report is true and factual but as the AA is quoted:

So AA staff will not be put in a position where they have to report any  offences committed by the motorists they are paid to assist.


This indicates that they will not report AA customers on the basis they pay for their services and will make an excellent argument in court. It's the Governments back door to privatise front line qualified police. This has already in the NHS with private companies staffing walk in centres in an attempt to free up the A&E staff as they are under pressure all over the country to supply first point treatment. With the cuts it was foreseeable as a reduced workforce that is and has been implemented leaves a fractured organisation trying to Polly fill the areas that needs dedicated, well trained and professional staff.

I respect the uniform of the Police and what they do but a watered down AA power hungry individual with the ability to report you on their say so I will never have confidence in.
