Chain link splitter / riveter in Leeds

Its a long shot guys, but does anyone have one of the above that i could borrow to do my chain on Saturday afternoon?

If you don't get one , easy to do with angle grinder , pair of vice grips and two hammers.  Did mine last week in 20 mins

cheers bwiz, how did you do that? by vice grips did you mean Mole Grips?

I assume bwiz cut the old chain off with a grinder and used two hammers one a ball end to peen the soft link and the other a heavy flat faced on the opposite end of the soft link..
Using the mole grips to keep the link pressed together while peening

Yes large mole grips !, Squeeze the link plate onto the open chain link with the grips and then rivet the ends over with a small ball hammer Easy done!

I think that was the problem, the large part. The mole grips I had weren't big enough, closest possible setting and the plate still wouldn't press on.


Ended up caving and buying a riveter off ebay from a guy in Bradford, worked a treat!

you cant beat the proper tool for the job    bought an oxford heavy duty splitter/riveter in the summer,for i think £70....will outlast me

The great thing about this is now we all know who has a chain tool in Leeds; PHILSHAQ  :lol

Just thought of an add on to the mole grip idea, After getting the link plate just over the pins ,If you then put a very small 6mm nut or similar spacer over the protruding link ,re apply the mole grips, You should then be able to press the link plate fully home.
then rivet the pins !
You pays yer money etc !
