OK so its never going to beat anything else with an engine away from the lights but I thought it was a cracking little car. Well built, well appointed. It even has aircon and electric windows!!!


But of course the best bit is C.£9000 on the road.............NO ROAD TAX.............. NO CONGESTION CHARGE.............AND............70 MPG.

Well I never thought I'd see the day when I bought a Skoda either but we did last year when we replaced the missus' 98 Golf with a 2008 Fabia 1.4tdi......no regrets yet! Doubled the mpg and £30 tax....and I don't spend every weekend underneath it!

Have heard nothing but praise for the Citigo. Myself run Fiat Panda 1.1 Active Eco bought on scrappage scheme nearly 3 yrs ago. Minimum 50mpg-Best over 60mpg Road Tax £30p.a. Cheap to insure. Even less power than yours. Often thought of putting the FZS thou engine in it but that would be scary :eek especially once the exup opened!

After many type-r's,gti's etc i finally got myself a fabia estate, the greenline version, only 1.2 diesel, its boring as hell but i must say it does everything i ask of it, for 12 grand i cant complain, it takes the kayak on the roof, pulls the bike on a trailer, takes the dogs in comfort and has a decent sized boot, plus i dont pay road tax.

claimed mpg figures are well off though, i get nowhere near the supposed 83mpg, in reality, thrashing it about town and local areas i can easy get 50mpg, on more open roads about 66 to 69mpg and motorways at 80'ish about 63mpg.

had it a year and a half now, only 1 problem with the exhaust sensor acting up, skoda customer service really good.

If i wanna go fast i jump on the bike!

I don't have a problem with Skoda's apart from they're Butt ugly, after all they're part of VW/Audi so under that Butt ugly skin is a goodish car. My question to all the Diesel car owners is, like Noggy does anyone have particulate filter problems. My mate has a 2.2 diesel Peugeot and keeps getting the filter lights coming on, and he needs something similar to Ad-Blue adding every couple of years, it needs the fuel tank removing so a major job. A mechanic said it needs to be regularly thrashed to keep the filters clean?


Any thoughts?

I have a DPF on my Santa Fe and have never had the light come on. Mind you it gets a 120 mile motorway run twice a week so does get the system warmed up.

Most people that get DPF lights come on are low mileage drivers that would be financially better off with a small petrol engine instead.

Mates missus has a Citroen C5 with the same engine as the Peugeot.  That had the light on and he was quoted an arm and both legs by the main agent for a fill up of AdBlue and a new filter.  Took the filter off, rammed a big masonry drill through it to start it off then removed the rest of the innards with a crowbar and hammer.  Refitted the empty box and it goes like the clappers.  You can even reprogramme the ECU to tell it it doesn't have a DPF so the light never comes on.  Went straight through the emissions test on the MoT too.

    We  use the scoda yeti at work, cant fault it, good driving position, lovely torque motor, mpg in the 50s.

I run a Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi estate, drives well, pulls like a train, tows well, has massive load space and is comfortable for 4 or 5 people.......oh, and it averages between 50 & 55 to the gallon  :eek

I have no plans to swap it yet, but when I do, I would definitely consider another Skoda  :thumbup

My exhaust sensor wasnt the dpf,just a dodgy sensor, according to the dash it was a crisis situation though but i ignored it coz i was on my to centre parcs & it wasnt spoiling my fun, ended up being nothing.my greenline does a self induced particle burn off every so often if i havent managed to get the engine under much load so ive never atually had the dpf light come on in 15000 miles.


If i ever do get the light come on ill take it out for a good old run coz if you ignore it after the light comes on you go past the point of no return and its 1000 squid for a new dpf.


If im totally honest, i got so stressed out about the potential issues with it after looking online and how i should drive etc, in the end i decided foc it and i just drive it however i like, mainly thrashing it actually and it seems to like it, IMHO if you baby these diesels then youll start getting problems, i think they need a good ragging,because mine only a 1.2 it generally is working most of the time but some of the big diesel engines are barely ticking over mostof the time,does go against the whole economy thing though by ragging them but im still happy getting 50mpg without going into neutral and coasting at every opportunity,i had an old seat leon tdi which had been babied for years and hardly any miles and that caused all sorts of problems with the turbo veins sticking coz it had never had a good blow out.


Again just my opinion, i aint no specialist, everyone has their own theorys, still a good car so far.
