Been toying with the idea of fitting a Wingrack 2 & a pair of E21 panniers aswell as the topbox I have now.
Does anybody have any experience with this, or a similar set-up? My main concerns are the width of the panniers for filtering & pillion room with the panniers installed.
When I (briefly) had that an E45 / E21 pannier setup there was very little room between the side panniers and the pillion's footpegs. If you carry a pillion make sure they have small feet....
I think the Wingrack2 version came with integral indicators, with the original you had to bodge your own ones into place.
Pics of my old 600's touring setup; unfortunately you can't really get a good view of how little room there is between the panniers & pegs. Furthermore, my partner found it impossible to safely get on the bike with 3 panniers in place so I sold the setup on fairly soon afterwards....
Very clean Fazer you have there. The set-up looks good too, but by the sounds of it, it's not as successful in practice.
Hmmm, might still give it a go if I can get a good price.... I'm touring solo this summer so it'll come in handy then, & if my girlfriend doesn't get on with it, I can sell it on I guess. The ability to leave the bike unattended with hard luggage, as opposed to soft luggage, is what really appeals to me. Thanks for the photos & info Kebab
The 600 is long gone, and I now have the 1000. However, if the job situation doesnt change I may end up back on the 600 again (or a 125).
For the 1000 I switched to a single 45 litre case on the back & a pair of soft throw-over panniers; pillion still couldnt get on the bike even tho they sat lower. Something to consider.....
My current setup is the Givi E45, a large Baglux/ Bagster tankbag with handle / carry strap and a Knox backpack, giving me about 100 litres carrying capacity. Not ideal, but the only option open to me; besides, if you need more than 100 litres you're not packing correctly (or so I'm told).
Try hanging onto it, it's gorgeous! Are those R1 forks? Looks great, I would love a Fzs1000 but if I ever get one, it's going to be a few years down the line, the insurance especially makes it unaffordable for me. Hasn't stopped me from deciding it's going to be my next bike though.
In the end I opted not to get hard panniers. It was really for my girlfriend's stuff when we go away together, but if she can't get comfy, or can't get on in the first place, it's not worth it. Just have to be tough with her from now on! No point in pretending a Fazer is a Pan ...
i have the 1000 and use the give system with 40l side panniers and my pillion has no probs with pegs or hanging on lol pic 1 without pic 2 with but before the paint upgrade

Guys, apologies for the noob questions here, I just got my '99 FZS600...
I want to eventually mount a full set of panniers with a top box, HOWEVER I already have a top box and plate from my 125 but obviously no back tray (or w/e it's called lol) to fit it to. I would LIKE to get the top box mounted first. Is there a way to do this or is it more economical to get the full set-up (mounting tray and pannier mounts) all in a oner? Even though I haven't figured out what set up to get it looks like just getting the mountings for the top box will cost in the region of £80, while a full luggage set up with top box plate (N141 Wingrack) will be £116 (plus a 'universal fitting kit' of another £58!!) And that's before I find actual panniers or see if my current top box and plate will fit on!!
Am I barking up the wrong tree here, or is this really the kind of costs I'm looking at for these layouts? I guess I might be prepared to go soft for the panniers but I really want to keep my hard top box - at the very least it allows me to stow my helmet while I'm shopping for beers!
If you want to keep your options open to allow you to have hard panniers later, it'd probably be best to get a Wingrack. There is one on ebay now with a fzs600 specific kit which is quite rare:
Alternatively, you could go for a monorack (the arms that the monolock or monokey plate affixes to) which is likely cheaper although this will not allow you to have hard panniers later. Here is one on ebay:
I've just fitted a Givi rack tonight, I'd been watching them on E bay but they didn't seem that much cheaper then new. I paid £92 for the rack and monolock plate some on E bay were £70+ once postage was added.

Hard luggage cases, especially the likes of Givi hold their value very well.
As a compromise, you could buy much cheaper lockable Chinese cases that bolt onto the likes of Givi base plates if you're desperate: http://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline....y34011.php
The Wingracks are the best tubular option, but also the most £££, new or 2nd hand.
Also ask yourself how often will you need all 3 cases? If like me you dont need them that often just fit a single large Givi on the back & a large tankbag.

Thanks for that. Yeah I'm beginning to think just the hard top box and when the time comes use a tank bag and some soft panniers...
