Headlight mods

Alright dudes.


I am thinking of mod'ing my headlights on me 2000 5DM Fazer, to make them, basically work.


I had a look at Angel Eyes, and also some extra fogs I can put on the side.


Is there anything I need to know?? Such as battery boosting, any particular products that will help make the battery perform well or any brand of road legal headlights, that are good, which won't kill the battery . . . .


Advice basically please would do me greatly.


I am gonna be getting the right bulbs though as talked about in Hot Poop . . . ..

Buy an H4 HID Kit for about £20 direct from China on Ebay . It takes about 3 weeks to arrive.

Install it in the right hand side and disconnect the left hand H1 bulb.

So you'll only have 1 headlight but it will be mighty bright! So make sure you aim it correctly.

You'll have to put it back to 'standard' at MOT time cos aftermarket HID kits will fail MOT.

Nope do HID on both headlamps did mine a while back TOP MOD no problems with MOT since I had it done had the "headlamp mod" done before that does not compare at all. HID is the way to go IMHO

HID kits are a really good option for most and they get good results for not a lot of money.

However, my experience with them was not perfect. I live in central London and consequently I do a lot of short journeys and I found that the battery was drained a lot more than usual.

HID bulbs use less power that halogens once in use but use a lot of power every time you switch them on. This is why you must have the engine running before switching them on. I like having my dipped beam on most of the time so HID did not work out for me. The light was an improvement though.

I have  now gone with LED spotlights and am very happy with them. They hardly use any power (15w each) and push out 1300 lumens, way brighter than HIDs. See: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,2666.0.html

I have the lighting mod fitted and both sides of headlight fitted with HID lamps the right hand bulb has a solenoid built into the bulb for dipping.
Passed MOT no problems.

Is that recent ?? (ie since March 2012?)

Reason I ask is that the MOT rules for aftermarket HIDs tightened up in January* but there was some exemption until March.
I don't know the whole story but I'd like to know if they're still passing them.

*Frankly its about time too - its far too easy to set them up badly. Its illegal to fit them to cars as OEM fit unless they are "self levelling".

The Bike was July 2011But..........
Had my car MOT'ed today 4300k 55watt after market HID's, I told the inspector they were fitted.
He said "Very bright white light but no glare they are fine".
If the cars lights [size=1.65em]are[/size] fitted with self leveling units and washers they [size=1.65em]must[/size] be working.
Mine hasn't so colour and glare is all they look for.
Passed OK

as for headlights mine r standed ones which are crap really need more light too ?
