Hia all. Gazbo here.Been riding since '78. no car licence - just bikes. Just got my first FZS600 on an 03 plate. Mint.17 thou. balanced carbs at weekend. ( thanks to the "how to" article from somewhere on here!)sweet now (low end was lumpy to say the least. chain snatching when pulling away gently - not now though !) Just thought I'd introduce me-sen. Dewsbury west yorks. locals might have seen my plodding to and from work on an 'orrible orange 883 sportster, bought due to a slipped disk, had best riding position etc. Leeds specialist has removed the offending item now, so I'm a bit more shall we say - flexible.
Rip off britain has fleeced me for the last time with that bloody Harley. so Ive gone from riding an anti aircraft gun to an electric motor in one fell swoop.
Must say I'm impressed. last four was a GPZ550, about 15 yrs back. that seemed a bit more grunty on low end, so I'm still getting used to the Yam screemin' buzz! after the yank lump, It feels like I'm gonna drop a rod or something, very revvy engines these. Ive had vertical twins, two guzzi's, original triumphs, single cylinder jap two stroke stuff - you name it. This seems to be by far the most user friendly.Oh - and this is my first ever forum post, on any forum, so if I did it wrong, please forgive me. This is one area where I'm still on L plates.(my nickname is either Gazbo, or the Grim Reaper). (I dabble a bit with rock and blues guitar, and a bit of fast irish folk on mandolin, and I fly model aircraft - when I can, dowwn at the dewsbury club field).
There.so that's me then. 51 yrs young and still plodding. wife of same age (21 she reckons - yeah - dream on love! and one son (Dan) who will be fourteen this july.big as a house ! Harley suspension didn't like the two of us on board - kept bottoming on the sleepin plods !This one doesn't !

Sorry for the delay. (13 hour working days - not been home much lately !)
erm - yes - I did like the Harley. Just had a lower spine disc taken out at leeds last year, so the Sportster was spot on for riding position, and I did like the rumble. But camshaft bearing replacement price was a mortgage job, and the rear mudguard (fender haha) was rotten. and that was gonna be a national debt ! so I simply weighed it in.
My mate at work has a Spongebob (square lamps) which is sweet, and Pagetts had this foxeye  in, and did me a good deal.(same geezer I bought the harley from earlier - was glad to take it back).
Somebody had to !
Just about to change the engine oil. any recommendations guys?
PS - may be a while before I'm on again - so don't hold your Breaths !!!! Laters !

Welcome aboard mate- best year and best colour you got -same as mine. I always use 40 10w cheap as chips oil - basic stuff from tescos is fine don't use fancy stuff its not needed and may have additives designed for cars that won't work well with the wet clutch

hi gazbo,

when changing the oil best recommendation i can give is what I did the first time - do it at a mates house. Means his drive gets the oil stains if you have to screwdriver the oil filter off.

Apart from that - same as gingernutz - no need to spend royally if you are changing the oil regularly.

:eek Dunno what this face is sposed to signify, but it looks like the mirror - view of a pillion, when the lights turn green,so I thought I'd shove it in for the laugh !
Thanks for the info Peoples. Oil & Filter is sorted now. Bought a filter pliers thingy from Halfords.£11 quid-ish.Loads easier to grab the filter than with the usual chain job. Swapped the plugs too. made no difference.Still a bit rough running on tickover,and up to around2000rpm.It will run rough all the way up to around 5, if you keep the throt down on the primaries, and let the engine catch up.Soon as you give it a fraction more, it goes smoooooth !
Real pain in traffic.
Did a vac check. Right two were way above left two, so after finding a long enough screwdriver,all four are now spot-on. Again - made no difference.Still the bloody same rough low end.
To put it into words, its like saying "BarberBarberBarber". trouble is it's orribly chain snatchy when trickling through traffic, slipping the clutch all the time, to try damping the effect, up to 15 mph.(which accounts for 50% of my journey home!) soon as I get off the primaries, it's like a swiss watch. Could it be a blocked primary, or maybe a mixture mis-match,on one cylinder? Mmm - I wonder...
Manuel - I don't got no car licence bro - never bothered with the 4 wheel-rustbuckets, so it's bike or bus for me.Or stop at 'ome !
( and theres no handlebars or wind in yer chops on a bus - so that idea can go swivel). PS. last time I tried the bus, which was "every 10 mins" - I stood for 3/4 of an hour in the wet stuff, only to hoof it the 3 miles into town, only to be passed by the glib git, as I got past the town hall !Never again!)
2 wheels - since '78, pass me Car test? - nah - too late !
