small screech under tank !
#1
I dont think its Crutchlow's mouse so i think it might be the Exup servo motor, if it is,  can it be oiled or does it mean its on the way out, any comments appreciated, Dave  :\  ps it only happens when i turn the ignition on.

it should operate when you switch on the ignition and it makes a whirring noise.

a screech could be the fuel pump priming.

I was concerned about the pump because i wasn't sure where it was! I'll get the tank off sometime and try and pinpoint it, I've heard a clicking sound which i assume is the oil pump pressuring up, either way it doesn't sound good, thanks for now, Dave

oil pump? that's mechanical and in the sump. it ain't that.

don't fret over it. is there another owner near you that can take a listen?

the fuel pump is behind the right side panel.

the exup servomotor is up under the tank. you can see it operate when you turn on the ignition.

Dave the clicking sound you can hear is most likely the fuel pump when you 1st turn the ignition on. As already said it's located behind the right hand side panel. Servo motor is under the tank towards the front left. If it is squeaking & not whirring  then I would investigate it.

Mine squeaks sometimes,
and so does my exup servo :b
Quick blast of WD40 or some such on the servo and it stops 8)
Has been doing it since I bought the bike 7 years ago, quick lube up every now and again seems to sort it.
Have been meaning to get under there and give it a proper clean up and lube at some point, just not got round to it yet.
Its better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake.

A quid says the screech is a dry EXUP valve.  It'll sound like it's coming from under the tank (which strictly speaking it is ... ) it's just a bit lower than your ears are telling you. Smile  Strip, clean, copper grease, reinstall and set the cable slack - job done.

Fuel pumps click.

EXUP servo motors whirr and sometimes crackle but never heard one screech. Smile

I think my quid is safe. Wink

Thanks everyone, I meant fuel pump  :o and sorry Falcon you've lost a quid! I strip the exup valve and copaslip every year or so, that leaves the servo motor ( I thought the fuel pump was under there too!) I've tried to lube it before but struggled! I will give it an aerosol / oil dousing tomorrow night, thanks, Dave

You ain't seeing my money until you've been back into the EXUP valve. Smile

I strip and copper grease the valve on my '99 R1 every 6 months but it still squeaks from time to time. Wink
