Topical topic!
Went out on Monday night in my so-called waterproof textile jacket and encountered hailstones, torrential rain, drizzle and mud pies left by tractors
I was only out for 1/2 an hour and it took two days for my jacket (Aldi Crown) to dry out. It is over a year old now and has seen some weather but even had wet arms where the rain came through the outer layer and the thermal liner and as for my T shirt- well I rung that out :'( .
It is just out of the washing machine as it was pretty filthy (fluorescent yellow model)
So,....... cut out the middle man and throw it away or treat it with some wonder spray that will stop all future water getting as far as me?
Cant afford a new jacket at the moment so- treat it or go back to my old Weiss jacket that did at least have some semblance of waterproofing or plan B... dont ride when it is raining :rolleyes

use ya weiss and double proof ya jacket ??
Sometimes putting a waterproof jacket through the washing machine is just the thing to restore its waterproofness. If goretex or similar limings gets dirty the breathing pores in the material are blocked up and water wicks through it via the dirt particles and the inside gets wet.
My Bering jacket leaked the other week and I got soaked a couple of times but after a quick 40C wash and dry in the Zanussi it was fine again and I rode through a few heavy showers this week and stayed dry. If a jacket still leaks after a clean I usually have a go with a wash in Nikwax treatment, this only works for a while usually, after that I bin it and it's time for a new one.
I might add that one or two of the showers we had this week would get through any jacket no matter how waterproof the makers claim it to be
You are right Phil- it was torrential rain!
I have ordered some nikwax spray and will give it an all over spray and see what heppens next time it rains.
I like the jacket £40 from Aldi in black and fluorescent yellow so doubles as life safety system and is really quite warm in cold weather but not too hot in warm with the liner left in. Good armour in shoulders, elbows and a back protector- so all in was a good buy... as long as it keeps the weather out
My Weiss was a good jacket but wearing a tabbard over it was a pain- hence the replacement- I want to make sure I am seen by the cagers when I am on the bike

I swear by Nixwax Techwash followed by the Nikwax TX wash in stuff.
Keeps it all tip top for a good few months, I tend to wash and re-proof my textiles every September/October just in time for the winter commute.
you pay for what you get! my HG voyager 3 (12 years young) has been re-proofed 3 times since ive owned it and possibly twice i've got damp whilst wearing it, but it was £350 in 2000!!
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!
Yes Nikwax Techwash-do mine in the washing machine @ 30 C This cleans out the grease & dirt. Then reproof with Nikwax spray while jacket/trousers still damp. Both have stayed completely waterproof since 2005 when bought. Only need to do this once a year. Also have one of those Aldi Hi-viz jackets which seems pretty good although pockets not as good as more expensive brands-but for the money...great value!

But then I stick to me leathers thx
let me know how it does in 12 years

All useful advice- thanks!

My Jacket was the same. I now wear a cheap ass cycle jacket over the top of my Spada one when it rains, and I now hardly notice it. Cheapy thing I got from Sports Direct. I look like an Orange berk though . . . .
:-)
I've got a frank Thomas xti textile jacket and a pair of akito trousers jacket got for 50 quid brand new trousers off my fiancee ex , had no problem with jacket but think the trousers need proofing might see about tech wash, for my leathers got hiking over trousers for a tenner and moto X clear over jacket for the top
