Ok, so I am getting old, I have vastly abused my body over the years, and yes, I do feel 100 in the body and 10 in the head...
This was happening on the 600, and it's appeared on the thou, after about 3 hours in the saddle, I get a cramping pain in the top inner of me left thigh.
I am contemplating a pretty decent run up to Cullen in May, via The Cairngorms. I will then be coming back via Blairgowrie, Perth etc...
I don't want to be hobbling when I'm off the bike.
Can anyone reccomend any exercises or stretches that will help, or am I better going to the vets for a put down shot?

Belly won't let me sit side saddle...
So, just a wild suggestion, off the top of my head, shoot me down in flames if you want...
... but maybe losing some weight would be a good idea...

I stretch on a 2 foot gym ball every day and it works a treat. Around 10-15 minutes a day should do it, and I would expect to see a difference in a couple of weeks. I would suggest a little exorcise before hand, but that is up to you. Just remeber that stretching should be just that, not a half hearted attempt at touching your toes, but really pulling all of those tight bits out a little further every time. Don't over do it and before you youknow it you'll be doing this... :lol
Not quite sure what to do with my early mid-life crisis. Ideas on a post card to P.O.BOX 150...
When you get into 30mph bits make sure your boots are firmly on the pegs and lift your arse out of the saddle slighty and hold it for 10 sec
Rinse and repeat
A good stretch for that area is the 'seated adductor stretch',
And another thigh stretch is for the psoas muscle.
Hold for 3 x 15-30secs after a hot bath or shower.
I'm a Personal Trainer so if you want any advice on stretching/strengthening I'm happy to help.
I know it is not a stretch, but have you adjusted your gear lever to suit you?
After a quick spin on a mate's Blade at the weekend, his lever was too high for me so I had to take the foot off the peg to change down and chaing up was awkward, my thigh muscle felt tired, a step towards cramp and pain(?).
Several times when I've been about to go out on a ride, I've done some basic stretching exersises and this does seem to help more than just jumping on the bike. Its amazing how much effort you put into riding a bike, especially if you're prentending to be a moto gp rider!
Having said that, i too, occasionally suffer from cramp/pain at the top of my legs where they join my hips, this usually happens if I've been out on a bimbling ride. My answer to that is to ride like a twat every where :lol
Take up smoking. Smokers always want to stop for a ciggie ever hour or so - which seems the perfect time to have a break on a long bike run. Lots of short 10 min breaks means you can keep riding all day, whilst a 3 hours stint will have you aching and not wanting to get back on the bike.
I'd just like to point out that when I said I did some basic stretching exercises, i did mean just that. I'm not a very flexible chap and all I did was to wake my muscles up a little. I find that if you stretch just to the point where you can feel the tightness, say in your leg muscles, then hold it there for a few seconds before relaxing and moving on to the next ones, you shouldn't cause yourself any injury! As Ghoti says, don't do it if your muscles are cold! Try walking around a little to warm them slightly. I'd also like to point out that I'm not in any way qualified in the art of muscle stretching and could be talking complete b*ll*cks. If in doubt, always consult a doctor!
