Suspension overhaul

I have just been talking to K tech about servicing  my suspension. My K tech forks are 4 yrs old now, and the " full monty " shock 2 years old. Just lately I reckon its lost a bit of lustre,suppleness has diminished etc and the rebound adjuster on the shock wont turn properly.Being a fazer the bike still runs fine, handle sgood etc, just dont have the subtleness in damping  which I used to notice..... So its time they had some TLC.... They have quoted £100 to service the forks, and £80 the shock. Thats a full strip , rebuild , regas/oil. It will be interesting to see if there is this cartridge tube wear which maxton talk about...
It will take 3 weeks( thats their turn around time currently) , so I cant give  a quick resume of what the difference will be.

yes, i will be interested in this "worn cartridge tube" thing as well. When i spoke to K-Tech they had never heard of it and nor had Revs Racing. (who have just done my forks)

Revs did mine in just under 2 weeks. I think though its the time of the year, everyone is getting there bikes tarted up ready for the better weather so companies are busy.

I was panicking a bit cos on sunday my shock rebound adjuster would only manage 6 notchy clicks out from fully home, and I was worried the damping had gone. However on riding it today , damping was firm, so the 6 clicks did alter it, much firmer than on sundays ride. But as K tech say stock setting is 10 clicks out , and I only have 6 ...must be a problem.The forks prob need new oil as compression damping needs backing off a few clicks to make it comfy too.
The bike handles fine, if on the firm side. When the sussies are fresh , I can get this handling with much more subtleness in damping , giving a good ride quality....hence why I reckon it needs a look at.

Do you have the forks all sorted now? What was the result? Worth the effort?
I'm looking in to getting my forks serviced and, probably, new internals as well (don't fancy going the whole R1 forks thing), have contacted the usual suspects, some even replied to me, but wonder whether it's worth the expense?

I am a K tech fan, having had their gear on my fazers since 2003...so I do recommend their kit. My biggest concern was the claim on another thread by maxton of " terminal cartridge tube wear" ...so I will be intrested to see what K tech say about my forks, as they have now done 35k miles.Be keen to see if there is any wear on my forks.

Would be v interested in hearing what the results are like - I've spoken to a few places now, all keen to sell me new internals, but also an outfit called MCT suspension in Suffolk who insist the standard internals can be made to work fine with a little tlc? I'm tempted to go that route instead as its less than 200 squid where as the quotes from the likes of K-Tech are well over 600...

dave- well the suspension units are extremely clean !  ... K tech do a superb job...rest of the bike...hmmm...well lets see, but no it will never look concourse!  :\

stevee- K tech are happy with the servicing they have done. They found no "cartridge tube wear" and smiled when I said maxton had said this is a big issue. They replaced the bushes on piston rods and all seals, but reckon the forks and shock  are as good as new. The shock needed a new bush on the rebound rod which had semi seized. I probably wont get the bike rebuilt till next weekend, as I am going to fit a new chain and sprockets too, so pointless putting it all back together till that arrives.
I am keen to get it rebuilt , but remember I have been riding on K tech sussies for over 5 biking years, and I 100% recommend them.Even worn , they performed superbly on a track day !

Its always difficult to justify the cost of good suspension , but K tech are still way cheaper than fitting ohlins...whether K tech are better than say nitron or maxton I cant say , but I am thoroughly satisfied with my suspension. I think the fact they can also be rebuilt a few years on is also a strong point if you R keeping a bike.
On a side note K tech do a full rebuild for my speed triple..£440 for forks £180 for shock. If I keep the bike I shall defo be getting them to do it. When you consider  I probably will need £4000 to buy a new speed triple ,plus  part exxing my 09 bike...feck thats a lot of cash to get a new bike  ...but to overhaul sussies and bring bike up to date, and sort out the rather old fashioned handling  is £700...sobering thought.
