Rear Caliper.

Does anyone know if you can fit a 1999 R1 blue dot rear caliper instead of the 2001-2005 FZ1 rear caliper onto a (2001)Fazer 600,and if not why not?

I don't think the R1 caliper fits as the bolt spacing is different (narrower I think), it won't fit the FZS caliper bracket. The Fazer 1000 2001-2005 one fits on after a bit of filing.

Agreed, R1 4xv 98/99 rear wont fit, despite looking very similar. Stick to the FZS1000 / TRX850 / YZF750 options
Thanks for the information. Are both the yzf750 and trx850 a pretty straight forward swap?

DaveC,
Read the 2nd posting on this thread - it links to the TRX850 rear caliper thread on the old FoC-U site & Andy's guide to what is needed for conversion. The YZF750 rear caliper is apparently identical so should be the same process You *will* notice a great improvement over the original setup Let us know how you get on or if you need help - also some pics of your upgrade might encourage others to have a go too since the FZS600 rear brake is not universally admired!

Kebad19,
Thanks for that,I've got selective vision at times.I will go with the FZ1 caliper, if I can get 1,but the TRX850 conversion looks interesting.

Yes, the FZS1000 looks best but is rare & usually expensive on ebay.
Both FZS1000 and TRX850 share the same brake piston seal kit so the pistons are the same diameter & therefore offer the same amounts of stopping power.

FZS1000 caliper on ebay:
Item number: 120831901344 Scuffed & a bit pricey, tho....worth haggling hard IMO TRX850 caliper, also a bit overpriced: Item number: 160692405292 TRX850 caliper, cant make out if caliper mounting plate is included: Item number: 140604640587 YZF750 caliper: Item number: 350487682913 Item number: 260892570508 Item number: 190614804267 with mounting plate

Yeah, that is a bit pricey, scuffed as well!I saw the YZF caliper on there the other day.I'm going to hang out for a reasonable priced FZ1 caliper,in no rush, not going to fit it until the spring.

My serviceable standard caliper will be up for sale soon when I get the new disc and Fazer thou caliper on it. The last one I saw went for £40 for goodness sake.

Will a 2008 Xjr silver spot rear caliper be an almost bolt on swap on a 98-03 Fzs 600 ala Fazer 1000 or a no no with completly wrong bolt spacings like an R1's? Ta

Taif you have one in mind, ask the breaker to measure the pitch, or pop onto an XJR forum and ask them the same. They will be quite accomodating.

Is the only difference between the various "spot" rear calipers the distance between the two caliper bolts then?
