Checking front sprocket nut details.
#1
Hi everybody.
I’m new to this site and new to Fazer ownership. I’ve looked at all the threads on this subject and just wanted to check my summary is correct:

I’ve measured my nut Big Grin  (     ) and believe it’s 9mm so I should get a new one…?

The washer tabs should be bent over (I don’t think they are now)?

The shaft thread diameter should measure 17.76 but can get away with 17.5mm?

The consensus seems to be to use locktite 270…? This needs to be heated to remove??

The torque for the new nut is 90nm?

Any suggestions for who currently does the cheapest good quality nut? £12.99 on eBay with the washer…

Ta.

From the tech bulletin for the 1999~2005 YZF-R6 and 2004~2005 FZ6
Drive Sprocket Retaining Nut and Lock Washer Replacement

Apply Loctite® 620 to the threads and install the
new lock washer and retaining nut from the Drive
Sprocket Kit. Tighten the drive sprocket retaining
nut to 90Nm (9.0m-kg, 65 ft-lb).

I cant find the specific bulletin amongst our old downloads for the FZS600 though

Here it is

The old smaller nut was 70nm and the new wider nut was 90nm but the general consensus on here was to go inbetween at 80nm

Also it looks to me like someone has fitted a normal non bend over tab washer which is thicker than the tab washer and so the old 9mm nut is now almost at the end of the threaded shaft.
Looking at the state of the nut you may be better off investing in a 6 sided socket for better grip when you come to take it off.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Thank you. And what is the black plastic bit around the washer, is that a normal part?

That's not a OE sprocket, that is a JT cushioned.  Looking at the fitment I'd just leave it alone. Just do periodic checks and replace like for like when it requires replacement.

What you need is the FZS600 Front Sprocket nut and Washer Kit.

Part Number: 90891-10124

Any yamaha dealer will have them or Wemoto and it will be the less than £5

I think JT after market sprockets market it as a quiet sprocket and the hard rubber black bit is supposed to dampen down the sound. I did not bother with the extra expense when I changed mine. Jury's out weather it makes a difference.
