Hi all, i'm Steve from Bedfordshire and I recently became the proud owner of a 2001 Fzs1000 which I bought from a friend for £200. Needless to say it was in a bit of a state. After a fair bit of elbow grease and a new rear wheel, silencer and tyres the old girl is now back on the road. The bike rides great but is still on the standard rear shock which definitely needs replacing. Having read a fair bit on the forum I've decided to put either an R6 or S1000rr unit on the bike. I was wondering if any of the later shocks from either model will fit as there seems to be more choice on Ebay ? Cheers, Steve.

@Steve, welcome, moved to the FZS/FZ1 section so someone can answer your shock question :-)

R6 shock: 2008-2016 '13s' model. Dimension-wise, the 2017 onwards R6 shock is the exactly the same, but don't think anyone has ever fitted one.
BMW shocks - 2010-2014. 2010-11 ones are 314mm long from centre of upper mounting hole to centre of lower mounting hole. 2012-2014 shocks are shorter - 308mm long from centre to centre. Both will fit but need different length dogbones. Think they went ESA from 2015 onwards, def avoid any shock with wires attached.

Welcome to the forum Steve.
Good to hear that you got a bargain and have brought a disused FZS back to life. Drop me a PM if you’re looking for any bits and pieces for it. I seem to have an ever increasing box of bits taking up space in my garage. Skid

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll now hunt down a decent shock and get it fitted. I aim to put a few miles on the bike and then plan a trip to Devon to visit a friend.

Have a look on Ebay, I picked up a nice Ohlins rear shock years ago for a decent price.

Thanks for the advice Pete. I have been looking on Ebay but haven't found the right one yet.
