Because I have seen threads like this one before many a time, here and in other places.

If you want to spend the extra money, feel free, but, like upgrading my rear shock from OEM to YSS instead of Nitron or Hagon etc, for the majority of riders, the difference will probably not be noticeable or beneficial.

Tell you what, you buy me a K&N filter, I'll install it, if I think I can feel any difference, I'll pay you back...

I fitted one to my bike many years ago, I think it makes a little bit of a difference. I seem to recall reading the FZS run a bit rich as standard and the extra air flow helps a little bit with fuelling. If nothing else it gained a nice howl from the exhaust near the top end.... I just have a Venom race can fitted.

As a compromise, Pipercross also sell reusable air filters the same design as K&N but are around half their price.

I forgot about them. Although I just read a load of comparison views and the K&N still gets the vote as apparently the Pipercross will clog up much quicker than the K&N.

Have you tried one?

No, because I don't feel the need to pay four times the price for something which would most probably make no noticeable difference to my riding.

It maybe 4 changes but you're forgetting the cleans between which make 8 visits the the air box (OEM) as opposed to the K&N 2 visits
