I run Avon 3DXM's on My Fazer and my bandit, good grip, predictable and don't cost and arm and leg.

I run Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE’s, excellent grip especially in the wet, fast warm up and good mileage. However, they do cost an arm and a leg :lol .

I also use the Avon 3DXM and am happy to recommend them I find that their profile gives great stability and confidence at all lean angles whereas the last Bridgestone's I tried seemed much happier when upright and not as confidence inspiring through the real twisties, the Avons also lasted ~10% longer than the Bridgestone's. The Caveats are that I'm so happy with the Avons I have had no reason to try any other tyre apart from the Bridgestone but that was some time ago and I don't tend to ride in the wet so can't comment on performance on wet roads. Whatever tyres you choose they are going to feel a lot better than the worn out ones

Conti Road Attack 3
Fabulous and the best tyre I have used in 20yrs., wet or dry. I recently ran the Fazer around Thruxton on them and they were awesome. I have them on the Tiger Sport and also my wife's Street Triple.

Michelin Road 5's, really good wet and dry grip with decent miles out of them. Nearly 6k on the last rear and still was just about legal.

They're often doing deals via suppliers and cash back at that, last was £30 I think it was, if you bought a pair.

I assume you're mounting the Road 5 rear 180/55-17. Do you find its profile to be too steep in the shoulder's edge, and that part of the tyre never touching the ground, even in hard cornering. I'm running Bridgestone S22 (road only, no track), but I don't think I'll be getting these again, and rather look a sport touring set of tyres.

[/quote] I run PR5's, and yes the sides are steep, and no, I have no problem with not using all of the tyre - I'd rather there was a bit more "round" spare when I've leaned as far as I want to, rather than riding on an edge (and losing surface area if I have to lean further than I want to). My "chicken strips" are about 10mm after 3k miles, and I like them just fine. They're great tyres, I've had 3's and 4's before which were very good, but 5's are a definite improvement - the compound away from the centre is much grippier than on previous models. Yes, you pay a tiny bit in dry, sunny grip compared to a not-suitable-for-rain-at-all-tyre, but it's when the weather's not so perfect that you need something you can depend on - I live in Wales, I'd never ride if I had to wait for the perfect forecast/ have a day off interface. |
