Hi everyone
Had my 2002 Fazer 1000 for 11years now & no problems at all.
Recently I bought another fazer 1000 project as it was a non runner & cheap.
It’s been standing for at least 12 months (inside) & I don’t know if the previous owner has had it running.
So the first job I did was to remove and clean the carbs before I tried to start it.
The first thing I noticed when trying to start it was that there was no spark! :rolleyes
Did the usual checks & as I’ve got my other working Fazer I’ve systematically swapped the coils, regulator/rectifier, cdi/ignition module etc
There’s no alarm fitted, it turns over but no spark.
I’ve now got the engine cover off to access the ignition pickup, grateful if someone could tell me how to test it
( I have a multimeter) ?
If it’s not that, beginning to wonder if there’s a break in the wiring loom :'(
or if anyone’s got any suggestions,I’d be grateful for their input.
Cheers
Hi all
Quick update,
I’ve checked the kill switch continuity only 2 wires going to it, so it’s either on or off & only allows cranking in the on position.
The resistance at the pickup coil is within the specified range, no alarm fitted.
Running out of ideas now :rolleyes
If kill switch was not working it would not turn over as it is the 12v feed to the Starter Cut out control relay as well as the coils.
What year is the bike , does it have the lights on/off switch on the right handlebar or the lights on all the time or the lights come on when engine is turned over a few times?
It’s a 2003 model and does not have the on/off switch for the lights.
Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that as my 2002 Fazer has the light switch.
This bike has been messed with by the previous owners, it’s been converted to a single headlight with no fairing & the clocks have been changed
Ok first thing that jumps out at me is those clocks, they are not of any know models of FZS600/1000 that I am aware of. These looks very after-market and the mounting bracket is non-std also. I assume this bike is missing the stock front fairing, screen, sub-frame, headlight, mirrors etc..?
The issue with the missing light switch for the r/h switch gear, suggest its either a euro or US model. But you should be able to get a uk version of simply plug it straight in along with the missing headlight relay that usually sites under the rear right of the clocks. Whats the wire hanging down I can see on the right..? and someone will correct me if I'm wrong but a single mirror (that is also non-std) is an mot fail.
Clocks are from the the R1 and is a common enough change if converted to single headlight, you just need to move a few wires around in the Clock Plug as fitting is the same just the position of the wire is different. As long as the clocks are from the last of the Carb model R1s there should not be any issue, earlier ones would not work as there would be no way of turning on the fan.
Do you have 12v at the coils when ignition is on and Kill switch is set to run?
Yes I have 12v at the coils, the wire seen hanging down by the throttle is where someone has spliced into the loom, not sure what it was used for but there’s no voltage from it.
I’ve checked the lights & clocks, no front lights working apart from when you use the flasher in front of the clutch lever, no horn or lights in the clocks & fan wiring has been disconnected in the headlight although will come on permanently if wires are connected.
Since the lights are on all the time it sound like a US import. How many wire are going to the ignition switch (4, 5 or 7) and what is the under seat code?
