Mystery oil/coolant pipe?
#1

Hi. 1st post with a mystery question.

Discovered a leak the other day whilst riding my 2000 FZS and tracked it to a little pipe that connects from the main water pipe to the oil filter/cooler. So I gave it a little wiggle only for the thing to snap off from the main water pipe and spew an oily/dirt water everywhere under pressure.

So I go looking on engine diagrams for a replacement part only I can't see this part anywhere. Take it to my mechanic who also can't work out what the part is. So here I am.

Hopefully you can see from the pics what this is. If not, I'm just going to bypass the part and chop the bigger off!

Cheers for any help.

It's the oil cooler water feed union, look here https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/416...water-pump

I'd consider changing your machinic mate  Wink

Thanks for the reply.

I thought it was meant for the oil coolant but, even in the diagram you linked, that part isn't there. No diagram I've seen of the Fazer shows it. However, the Thundercat one DOES! (See attachment)

The pipe itself is fine, but there must be a metal connection between the pipe and main water hose so I'm still confused as that what part I am meant to order.

Mate it is part 15 on the link I provided.  The drawing you're looking at is for the radiator, the part is on the drawing for the water pump, you're looking in the wrong place.  Wink

OK, thanks. I'll try and source the part.
I was looking for the hose that went from the oil cooler to the main water hose on the diagrams. I STILL can't see it in the diagrams for the Fazer so I'll pretend I have a Thundercat instead!
Cheers all! I'll let you know if it all works.

I do believe it is the metal joining part as posted above. Just went down to the mechanic and he agrees. However, I have to find the part myself! Anyone have one for sale or know of a suitable replacement part?

I meant that I was specifically looking for the hose that joins the oil cooler and water hose together. I'm now looking for the part you mentioned but it's not an easy part to find. Who would have thought a 21 year old part would be so difficult?!

IF its just the rubber hose, rubber radiator hose of the correct (ish) size from Halfords/eurocar parts etc will do, it just wont be formed to hold its shape. A good mechanic can resolve that though.

The hose is fine. It is the metal join part that was linked above that has rotted away and snapped off. I can just remove all the hoses, insert the metal join and then re-attach them all.
Can't find that part anywhere though so was wondering if I could just pull this part off a 2003 R6? I know it is the wrong shape but I can resolve that with getting some new, longer hoses from, as you say, Halfords. I mean, it is just a metal pipe with 3 holes in it. Surely anything like that would do the same job, even if from a different model, make and year of bike? Or am I being dumb again??
