sold me bike today and got a Pan, it's my understanding that the tax ends at point of sale and you tell DVLA who will refund if applicable. Question is, the online Government dept only operates from 7am - 7pm so I cannot do it tonight and I need to be on the road before 7am tomorrow. If I take a chance and ride to work, what happens if I'm pulled.....am I barley like when you're going to the MOT station with no MOT (dubious as no proof that I'd be deffo paying for tax) so what would the offence be.......if no tax does that mean no valid insurance?
bit of a pickle tbh
fire never sleeps
Have you run the new bikes plate on the government website to see if it is showing as taxed? If it is then you should be fine.
To be honest if your going to be out on it before 7am then I wouldn't worry about it, what are the chances if seeing a copper, let alone a traffic one at that time in the morning?
I ride with the previous owner and it was/is taxed
system is down atm so I can't update anyway. I think legally I need to tax it, I can't take a chance with meeting the wrong copper due to my occupation as I'd get bounced in work
fire never sleeps
Ride it. Tax it within a couple of days. job done.

Quote:When you buy a vehicle, the tax or SORN doesn’t come with it. You’ll need to get new vehicle tax before using the vehicle.
You’ll need the reference number on your new keeper supplement (V5C/2).
You can also tax at your local Post Office® or by calling:
Telephone: 0300 123 4321
Cancel vehicle tax and get a refund
Your vehicle tax is cancelled and you automatically get a refund when you tell DVLA that your vehicle has been:
sold or transferred
Can't you do it through
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax ? Or is that the one that closes at 7pm?

like you I use website & thought it is 24/7
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!
My son sold his moped last week and the sale/transfer site is only available 7 till 7. The v5 will only take a couple of days to come through though so crack on and use the bike then tax it when you get the v5.
If the seller goes online to do the "sale" then you can go online to tax it the same day they "sell" the bike.
