I had a problem with the sight glass going cloudy and stained over the winter stand up.

I didn't fit it myself but my mechanic said it was a lot easier to fit than he thought it would be.

How did he go about changing that then?

I believe you cut away the rubber seal and howk it out with a screwdriver.
Then tap the new one into place with a correctly sized socket.
