Gen 1 1000 fork seals
#1
Need to do my fork seals, any makes to avoid or definitely buy. Also any tips, I've done fork seals before but not on a thou. so are there any 'challenges' or 'wish I'd bought one of those' tools.
Cheers
Carl

If, as I presume you have a leaky seal try a Sealmate tool first. I've used one three times on different bikes (including my present bike here in dusty Indonesia)and they all stipped leaking. You can also easily make a 'Sealmate'' yourself, old photographic negatives are just the right gauge, simply cut the plastic to mimic the Sealmate shape. Can save a lot of time and bother.

Thanks for the info Gents.
Already tried the seal mate plan and it still seeps, might give it another go before I start buying bits and bobs.

If the seal mate did not work, Check for small stone chips on the fork leg, rust around the seals or cracks in the dust caps which would allow dust/grit into the seals.

Forks areĀ  in really good nick, 2005-12k-never lived outside or used in the winter by the state of the bike. Just ordered the genuine stuff from Fowlers, so all I need now is a bit of time, motivation and a load of tea.
