Brown gunk leaking from carb
#1
This is strange. Just got back from the Isle of Man, bike not missed a beat once. Pulled over for a break and after about 10 mins I noticed a brown oily petrol mix seeping out of carb no2 running down onto the generator cover. I rode another 300 odd miles since then, turning the fuel off every time I stopped (which was annoying). I've just taken the carbs off and found the float bowl rubber gasket split on no2 carb but, carbs are clean inside! So what was the brown stuff?? It felt like oil, so now confused!!

Could it just be contaminated from the rubber pipe ?

It's probably the residue of ethanol attack of your carb seals. It was previously obvious on my No1 carb, before BSD changed all my carb seals ( internal and external - which were all fucked) and reset the carbs - which had been over-adjusted by a German Yam dealer, to compensate for the variable fuelling. (i'd ended up with a litre of unburnt fuel in my engine.) This problem will be getting worse now as the Gen1 bikes get older because ethanol content is rising.
