Took my radiator guard off for the first time in about 10 years and it looks like I can't put off replacing the radiator much longer. It also explains the smell of coolant I sometimes get sitting at traffic lights.
Any comments on where to get a new radiator from and where to avoid?
I know some of the early Chinese copies had the angle of some of the pipe stubs wrong but have they fixed that now, or is delkevic the most reliable?
Should be ok from Busters/M and P a good price for in stock. Could get cheaper direct from China but worth the extra dealing with UK company in case there are problems.
I got mine from Wemoto. It wasn't the cheapest by any stretch, but seems well made. The main top pipe on the right seems slightly at the wrong angle which makes getting the hose on a bit tricky but not impossible. Otherwise I'm very happy with it.
I bought one from M&P about 3 years ago for about £100. There was a slight problem with the angle of the pipe soldered on top LHS which caused a bit of difficulty fitting hose correctly. Needed a rad in a hurry then & didnt want to risk postal delays or quality issues from Far East.
I'll find out when it arrives if they've got the angle right now. Hope the hoses survive being disturbed after 18 years and if the fan bracket will come off the old radiator, at least I don't need to worry about damaging the old radiator if it puts up a struggle.
Time to start giving the bolts a soaking with penetrating oil
Good luck removing your old fan I used a blow torch to get one off & still had to drill one stubborn bolt that snapped,but the rad was shot anyhow so I salvaged the useable fan.
Clamp the tab your working on in a vice heat directly on the nut,slight turn either way to break the bond.
