Looking at buying a FZS600 again.

I had a look on the MOT history checker website - the bike reg is V686 TAV - it shows a mix of mot's recorded in miles and KMS so hard to tell which is correct.
I am taking it out at lunch at work as have found a route around here that's exactly 2 miles so will do that and check clocks and see if its recording distance in miles or KMS, but as i am very familiar with how far it is from work to my house and use the same route every day i know i couldn't of done it in 6.7kms as is pretty much 6.7 miles.
Starting to look alot more like a 58k bike.

There is an electronic module you can get that plugs between the sensor and the speedo to convert the pulses received from kmh to mph. It effectively makes the needle point to the right number so 30 is 30. You should have a little sticker on the glass of the speedo covering where it says kmh with mph to make it all legal but its not necessary if you know.
When this box is fitted, the odometer will start to increase in miles rather than kilometres too.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

I will have a little root around.
Just concerned that now with that thing possibly being fitted and not knowing how long its actually been in place for, whether the mileage is correct?
Its a nice bike and first impressions of riding it seem pretty good, I sold my old FZS600 last year after a few issues, but this one seems to run better.
Would be a shame to return it, but i only do about 3.5k a year commuting and if its done an extra 20k then it doesnt seem as appealing.

I wouldnt be too worried about the mileage being on the high side provided you have some evidence of service history. Do you know how many previous owners there have been?
You will get this information when your V5C arrives from DVLA.
My own bike (FZS 600S) like yours was showing 51300 miles when I bought for £999 back in February. previous owner was an all year round commuter type rider so was racking up some miles-again not really a problem since I had receipts for servicing/replacement of exhaust studs & stainless downpipes fitted also had braided hoses(Hel).
Now the things I have focussed on so far have been to do with mechanical/rolling chassis work. A 15 year old bike is going to need some attention to suspension,brakes,lube of swing arm,linkages & headset. Also valve clearance check if no previous data came with bike.
Truth be told I am a bit OCD with bikes and over time I want to make this one run as well as poss also do some cosmetic work over winter. These engines are pretty reliable assuming oil & filter & cam chain havent been neglected. Your bike looks a good un so work out how many years you will have to ride to "go round the clock".
Have just replaced carburettor to cylinder head rubbers and fitted parts from carb overhaul kits. Bike is @ local garage today having carbs synchronised as I dont have a set of vacuum gauges-my mate does but hes away sunbathing & I want the bike for this weekend for Llangollen Bikefest!!!

Your bike looks nice and well looked after.
From what i can see the bikes had 4 owners and it doesn't come with service history as such, just a pile of receipts for various bits and some service work.
Its in pretty good condition with nothing really standing out as needing urgent work.
The carb rubbers are looking a bit old but not had chance to test them yet for leaks, but the bike does run well.
I guess for a £1000 you cant expect the world, but bought it from a dealer as a part ex bike and they said i can use it for 14 days and if there's issues i can take it back for a refund.
The mileage thing does concern me as i didnt want a too high mileage bike, although i dont do that many miles a year, only about 3.5k in commuter miles and very rarely go out on weekends any more.

Why obsess about the mileage? The Fazer engine will typically cover at least 100,000 miles before needing significant attention, so should be good for a decade at your usage level.
If it's running well and brake discs etc have plenty of life left, there doesn't seem to be any point in worrying.

If your not 100% about it then walk away.
How long you thinking of keeping it because selling may be an issue due to the possibility of it be an import and very limited history.
£1250 ish could get you a nice bike with history.

Yeah i think i do obsess abit about mileage and stuff like that, guess its just down to a limited budget and want to buy wisely and been caught out in the past, Im not overly technical and sometimes not sure if I'm getting a good deal or being ripped off.


I've spoken to the dealer i bought it from and they are more than happy to take it back and i think there a little disappointed that they have been caught out by the guy partex'ing it to them.
I just want something to commute to work and that's about it really.
On the paperwork it says first registered in the uk 18-april-2000 then next to it on hpi says registered abroad, so hopefully that just means that it went to live abroad at some point in its life.

It should also say on the V5 "Declared new at first registration" or something else to indicate it was an import.
