Running problem
#1
So I first got this problem when I was using the bike in heavy rain. Thought I had solved it but havn't

Basically after around 40mins of riding the idle starts going rough, the bike then pulls away very "jittery"

It's hesitant to pull away low down. The bike runs fine when you are further up in the rev range....

Any ideas? I have changed the plugs and checked TPS

Rain related jitters normally do point towards HT leads or plugs.
A knackered or breaking down TPS would also cause similar issues, but the rain wouldn't be a factor, it would do it all the time once it's on its way out.

Is your air filter okay and not clogged up at all?

You may even have water in your fuel tank that could cause it to be jittery as well.

Thanks for reply mate,

I done that check on the TPS. It stayed at 5000rpm. Must say I have not looked at air filter yet. This thing was fine when I left the house then I get to a certain pint in my journey and it starts messing about. Rough idle and won't pull away clean very jittery. Shame as I have had 3 trouble free years out of it....

It's basically doing this now after a certain amount of time riding it... Funny though as I took it out yesterday gave it a right blast it was ok... Now it's playing up!!!

Don't rule out water in the tank though either, my mate rode a Fazer all the way back from Germany somehow in the pissing rain to London then the bike wouldn't even start the next day.
Think he had at least a pint of water in the tank when a mechanic looked at it.

You can drain the carbs and see what comes out, if there's water then that will come out first, but beware the drain screws are very soft metal so you need to be careful and use a very good fitting screwdriver.

I wouldn't have thought it'll be a blocked jet or carb issue because that would be constant rather than intermittent in rainy weather.

I am thinking more an issue with the coil possibly. Are these a common problem? Is there anyway checking these?

Darrsi. It's doing it all the time now about 40mins into my commute. It's kind of like when it's getting hot it's doing it... I am thinking maybe one of the coils is going wrong?

The HT leads are fixed to the coils so by all means either or could be dodgy.
Not sure personally how you check them for faults though?

I thought it was something to do with measuring with a multimeter resistance or somthing... I think this is an electrical issue somewhere
