Do you mean k&n pod filters for each carb or just replacing original filter with a k&n one?

You will need to do a lot to the carbs (new jets/needles) and also put intake trumpets inside the filters to prevent flat spots at the bottom end.
When you have jumped through all these hoops, you still won't have any more power than a properly modded Gen 1 with the standard airbox, a regular K&N or Pipercross filter and a modded airbox lid.

Hi,
I have got a bit of work to do on my bike but i have just read Falcon Mike's last post about the modified airbox lid for K & N filters. My bike has a K & N filter fitted, i don't know if the airbox lid has been modified, what should i look for and if it is standard, what do i need to do with it and what is the brnefit?

The OP was asking about pod filters that fit directly to the back of the carbs. These require the airbox to be removed completely and a host of carb changes to boot. Not worth the hassle, IMHO.
To see a properly modded airbox lid, go to post #16 here: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthr...mod&page=2 If yours has been modded already, chances are very high that I did it and that you've got Ivan's Full Monty jet kit fitted. However, if the lid is standard, chances are equally high that a previous owner simply fitted a K&N filter without doing any other mods to the carbs or intake stubs. If this is the case, leave the airbox lid alone because you'll gain no benefits but might cause the motor to run slightly lean..
