Horny....

So i took the horn off today as i thought it was broken.....

I hooked my AVO ( Amp/Volt/Ohmeter...) to the switched terminals and when i pushed the switch it showed as 12V....

I HAD previously painted it with hammerite so assumed i have "broke" it then, but i thought i would have a fiddle...

There is a small screw on the back of it....i un-did that and it sprang into life, scaring the hell out of me in the process....

I suspect its to adjust the tone of the horn by screwing it in or out and i think when i painted it i just screwed it all the way in locking the diaphragm down fully....so no tone!!!!

Just thought i would post in case anyone else had seen the issue....

I'd just stick to 'if i move this screw and the horn works, yeehaa' :pokefun
Btw, this is the type of horn I've got fitted now, fairly loud and far better than stock but not like an air horn, no room to fit one of those but got one in the garage somewhere too

does it run off the standard switched temrinals or did it need its own relay, some i have seen do need their own relay...

Straight off the wires already there, just make sure you get the positive and negative right way round
Why would you need a relay? The original horn already has one on the bike, so any other horn you connect should be straight forward

Just a thought.................has anyone replaced the standard horn with a car horn say off a Merc which should be louder. Come to think of it, 2 car horns, 1 off a Merc and the other say a BMW (trying to think of angry horns instead of "friendly" Jap car ones).

Horn relay? Mine doesn't have one and standard wiring diagram doesn't show one. Since horn only used for short periods you shouldn't need one as long as existing fuse rating is OK for whatever horn you stick on.  Only compressor driven air horns might need a relay

Tbh Jules-C, I was only surmising it would have one, but I never checked

But in the same thought, if your just wiring in another horn it should just be a straightforward plug in, due to anything that was needed would be within the original wiring gubbings etc but as you say, depends what sort of thing your puting in, air horns and the like.

My BMW had foccin relays for everything, guess that's what was in my head
