Speedo Drive - but not what you think

I need the help of more knowledgeable fellow FOCer's out there.

My 99 boxeye has had by a previous owner has a 'streetfighter' modification, I assume due to a front ender.  It has a set of FZR clocks and normal mechanical speedo drive, and the obligatory useless in the dark dominator headlamps.  Oh, and the headlamp / clocks harness is a botched mess of a b***ers muddle involving connector strip and tape.  Needless to say I will be sorting this very soon.

Now I was going to get the front end back to almost standard, so I have a set of correct clocks, mounting hardware etc., Fazer speedo drive and insert, however looking into the standard headlight, and seeing a mates Triumph which has had speed triple headlights fitted gave me the idea of streetfightering it the correct way, so I am on the lookout for a set of headlights.

However, after the speedo drive gave out, I fitted a TDM850 one (same 17mm spindle size), clocks all working again.  But this is where I need you good guys for a bit of help.  The mechanical drive is driven by two tabs from a ring in the wheel, like the Thundercat, so this will have to come out - but looking at Fazer parts list drawings I don't see a ring to mate with the 2 tabs on the ceramic insert.

Does anyone have a photo of this side of the wheel hub from working on the bike, or know how the speedo drive is meant to fit?  I don't really want to buy a new wheel if I don't have to.

The positioning of two projections on the top of the speedo cup are important as a projection on the forks fits in between them a/b

It can be a bit fiddly the first few times because the outer housing also has to slide into a groove on the fork leg, but it's obviously very important you get it sitting correctly as it is possible to fit in the wrong position, and the lugs will simply snap when you tighten the wheel spindle up.
Been there, done that.  :'(

i would love to get rid of the stock assembly - have a KOSO speedo that bolts to a bracket you put on the bottom calliper bolt, then magnets go on the rotor - little holes it has in...

The speedo drive of TDM850 (from 1999 on) and FZS600 are exactly the same.
Left with broken tabs from a 2000 TDM and right from a 2003 FZS600 (bought it for my TDM  )

Some time in the dim and distant past that part was modified. Originally the whole thing was made from one piece of the magnetic material,
but when I bought a replacement the tab part was plastic with the magnetic tube bit glued to it.
My speedo stopped working recently for no apparent reason so went straight to this culprit. Sure enough, it had broken, but nothing some superglue couldn't fix.

anyone seen any sort of shim that can replace the assembly.....i geuss not - i only ask as i will be using a custom speed sensor from KOSO at some point and it mounts on the caliper bolts so the speedo hub assembly for me would be useless....but i won't hurt to leave it...

Leave the hub in place- you know it's the correct size spacing then!

i will - darent mess with it - just un case there was a proper replacment part i.e. get rid of wires!

Thanks you guys for the photos and replies, it has been really useful info.

I have the drive, and I managed to get a NOS insert from fleabay for under £3 (don't think the seller new how much it was worth). 

Fom the photos I think my wheel has the insert, or a copy of, from the thundercat to make the mechanical drive work.  It also seems to have the extra seal from same. 
I now have enough to go on to get the proper clocks on.

....Then I can save up for some lovely street triple headlights..... :lol
