Which model to buy ????help
#1
Hi guys,
newbie here and on the lookout for a Fazer, always liked the look of them all, I'm thinking of spending up to 2.5k but I don't know which model to go for. My mate always says 'a good big un beats a good little un' so I guess a fazer thou but I'm not adverse to a 600 to be fair. Looking about the net the 600's are cheaper with the early ones going for as little as a grand, I quite like the idea of a manageable 600cc bike. What are they like to ride compared to the 1000cc Fazer?, and on to the thou again looking on evil bay I could possibly get a higher mileage thou for just the top of my budget. These days my riding style is steady, I do like to get a move on when the roads allow but very rarely see a ton these days. Oh yes lastly, which models are carbs and which are FI? is the FI reliable (I seem to have a FI hex on me, every bike I've owned with FI has given my shit of some sort or another lol.
Apologies for the long post guys, any input / opinions would be ace.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark, I've owned all the Fazers apart from the 8, and I can safely say they're all cracking bikes in their own way.

The Fazer 600 came in the boxeye, and Foxeye variants. Just the headlight fairing was different.
The 600 is probably the only bike you'll ever need, but not the only one you'll ever want. It can do absolutely ANYTHING!!!
I've toured, scratched, and commuted well over 100,000 miles on them and loved every minute of it. There's trackday heroes on here that track these bikes too!

I've currently got a gen 1 thou as my commuter/tourer, and its a lot heavier than the 600, and not really that much quicker, but bigger and a bit more comfy for my long legs. It'll again do anything the 600 does, just gets 45mpg rather than the 600's 55+mpg

The fz1 is just coming into your budget at 2500, and the best description for it is that it's a comfy R1. Lost a bit of the Fazer soul, but if you like to rev and go round corners fast, then this could be a winner.

The fz6 is again a revvy little beast, based heavily on the r6 engine. In a way it kind of missed the point, but owners generally love them.

Imho the Foxeye 600 is probably the best value bike out there, and are reliable as a Swiss watch.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Hi, I have the FZ6N, which is the fuel injected naked 600 based on the R6, not had any trouble with the injection  (touch wood) infact the only thing I've done to the engine is oil and filter every 4 to 5 thousand miles and new plugs and coolant last winter at 39,000 miles.
I get around 4,500 miles to the rear tyre but that could be doubled if I took it steady, insurance has been as cheap as £80, not now as on multi-bike.
At the end of the day just buy the one you like.

Personally, i'd make Unfazed an offer for one of his bikes, it'll be better than brand new.  :lol

There's a chance my gen 1 might be up for grabs soon, I've possibly found a deal breaker on a 1200gs.

Cheers for the replies guys, particularly Stevierst, just the sort of info I wanted. I'll do a bit of soul searching over the next few weeks and hopefully be on here with a fazer 600 or thou :-)

Cheers

I have had two FZ600s, the S1 and the S2, enjoyed both. I went from my S1 to a CBF 1000 gt for touring, nice bike but as boring as feck, Moved to a Z1000SX loved it but was getting on my tits being fully fared and was a weighty sod for me. Got the S2 and thought I could live with that but just missed the punch of a 1000cc bike so now on an FZ1 happy chappie again. Go for the 1000, plenty of power on tap to get you into all sorts of bother.lol

Right been doing a bit reading on here and I've decided to go for an early thou, a carbed model to be precise, that should keep my FI issues at bay (up to 05 I think) the throttle goes both ways so they say :-) Cheers once again guys

You won't regret it, they are fantastic bikes Smile Require a little more man-handling than the 600 but the low down torque is great ^.^

They are a great machine, won 'bike magazine' bike of the year in about 2003, and are still in the rankings even now.

Good standard bikes, but can be made even better with very little expense.
R6 shock conversion is a quality job allowing more sportsbike cornering, and ivanising is a game changer, unleashing the R1 engines potential!

Whatever you decide to do, you'll have got yourself a bike you'll never forget. Njoy 8)

Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!
