Won't shift up to 3rd and back down if eventually is in 3rd
#1
hi Folks- hope everyone is well and already started enjoying the extra hour of sunshine! Smile

well, i thought i was also enjoying the sun in surrey this morning  until my gearbox had other ideas!

it started about 10 days ago with not shifting up from 2nd to 3rd gear, i had managed to fix this by going one down and up to 2nd and then 3rd. thougt it was one off issue. however, today on my ride to work i couldn't get it up to 3rd at all, and it also felt really clogged up moving between 1st neutral and 2nd, wasnt smooth switch as it used to be.

when in 2nd, i pull the cluch in as you do, and lever up but it feels like there is nothing up as if you are in 6th gear and i tried going down to one and up again didnt work. and as i approached my destination had a last go then it went into 3rd but then wouldnt come down to 2nd and had to ride in 3rd to park in car park, and as i couldnt find the neutral it stalled. and not sure how if i  am going to be able to start it in the evening.

any ideas what might be the likely issue; and if it would be easy to fix or and expensive one.

i checked the cluch, and the lever as these were suggested in forums but all seem fine from outside, and i didnt change my boots, or dropped the bike.

my bike is a fazer 600 S2 ABS- 09 reg- , got 22000 on the clock.
thanks

Try going through the gears without the engine running, you will have to sit on the bike and move it about, make sure non of the gear linkage is loose, if it still won't change gear then I would think it's in the box.
If you can strip the box yourself you should be able to find complete gears on ebay around £50 - £100 if not, it could be expensive. I've only rebuilt a couple of gearboxes and that was many years ago never on six gears, and it can be a bit of a nightmare getting them back together, you need someone who knows gearboxes? good luck.

If the clutch cable is set correctly then it sounds like its the selector mechanism, Its a common problem on the FZS but I have know it happen on the FZ6. I've done a few now but I have noticed it more of a problem for the R6 but I guess that could be down to the kind of people that own them  Wink

Deefer666 and Chaz, thank you.

had to ride back home in 2nd gear for about 8 miles last night, which wasnt fun for me also for the traffic behind me Big Grin

i tried to change the gears without engine running, i feels the same. unfortunately, i dont trust myself for openning the gearbox. i think i will take it to the garage i get my service to find out whether it is going to cost me arm n legs Smile fingers crossed.

will send an update once i know what is causing the issue.
