chipped keys again (i know i know :D)
#1
seeing as dont have a red key for the bike (is it a fkin fiat  :rolleyes )

and found out that key from yam involes ecu and all sorts and rape of wallet for 900 quid

found a place in northampton that does it mail order for 220

wnted to just buy a cut key just to have for emergencies and happened to ask if a car chip key can be done how about a bike

they said yes - if they have the blanks as they specific - honda are shorter kwak and yam are longer

they said yam are tsx 2 type which means the coder can handle it without the bike being present - tsx 4 means they need the bike as its the key in and turn for x seconds and all sorts - something to do with the type of chip - not handy if theyre in a shopping centre like mine  :lol

and how much??

£40 - only thing is even tho all the timpsons do chipped keys for cars - only some of them have the machine that copes with bikes too

well happy - thought it might have been slightly more - was expecting them to say no

Chipped yam keys are no problem. You don't need a red key, the code can be cloned from the black key.
Just about any key cutting place that does car keys should be able to do it.

Trouble with auto keys nowdays is you need to invest a lot of money in kit (regularly) and have the constant technical back up - who often tell you that you need to spend more money on kit!
So, often, a key you couldn't copy previously, you now can because of an update you didn't know about.
Having said that, many key cutters are now shying away from this side of the business, me included.
I can still do basic non button keys (including Yamaha Smile ) so in reality there are not that many I do nowdays.

House keys are just starting to get awkward as well. There is a Yale key around now that my normal array of machines cant do it. I need to invest £7000 in a machine just to cut these.
So don't think the locksmiths are ripping you off!!!!

As a lot of auto work involves lost keys, you need to be mobile. I reckon a younger man whos prepared to be on constant call (no life), who could fill a van with £20 grand of kit and be prepared to travel a bit, could earn a few bob!

My cbf1000 came with a broken chipped key. Honda would copy from the second one and program a key for £58. Seemed reasonable but in the end I sent a locksmith on ebay a scan of my key and he sent me an empty shell. You just pop the insides from the broken key inside.  5 working days all in and very happy for £12.50
