Hello everyone, i've just signed up and am looking to get some buyers info for the 2008 model year fz-1s. My main query is does it have the "red" key like yamaha r1's do? The dealer selling the bike says the bike dosnt have a "red" key and looking at the photos it dosnt seem the ignition barrel is part of the YISS system on some other yamahas.
For what its worth, i've had my full uk license since 2006. Since i passed, i have been riding a suzuki sv650s, 1999 model year. I bought it with 18,400 miles on it, and just last week the display flicked over 73,000 miles. Ive commuted, toured, poodled and thrashed it and if i end up finding a buyer for it i shall be ever so d to see it go.
The fz1s has been the bike ive wanted for a very long time. I do more motorway and faster road riding these days, and my wife comes out on the back more. Hopefully the fz1 will suit us both better.
Anyway, merry christmas to you all and look forward to getting some info.
welcome, I would have thought it should have a red key as it should have the YISS immobilizer unless the lock has been changed but it should still have a red key to program any new keys, I don't know if the immobilizer can be bypassed, if you're not sure don't buy it there's always another one, getting insurance might be a problem if it's not a standard bike, good luck with it.
hello that dude. i have the 2008 fz1s and it came with a red key.
a bird in the hand poops on the wrist
All Yams fitted with YISS should have the red master key.
It's ok if you don't, but you just have to take extremely good care of your existing keys as you need the red one to programme any new keys.
It seems this one dosnt have the yiss, there is some info i have found elsewhere that some bikes didnt have the yiss on it. No problems there then. I rode the bike, fell in love and put down a deposit! Really is a wonderfull machine and that engine is incredible!!!
Hello Dude !!!
You should love the bike, i bought one without seeing it,without sitting on it even,,just decided and ordered a 57 plated one, its great, and you can do all sorts of mods to them, for some reason some of us just try to get more power out of them,,also making them more easy going along the way.
Fantastic to tour on, been to Mugello and also Brno on mine,oh and a lap of the Nurberg ring too.

Cheers slim for your message, i hope to venture abroad at some point but i've never been a good traveller! Planning a trip of wales this coming summer then the year after maybe a good jaunt up to wales. Ordered a givi topbox rack today to take my old topbox and some time i'll get a satnav too, theres already a power socket installed. Looking for some engine bars too for crash protection, and at some point i'll fit symtec grip heaters...and i need to fit a lead to plug in my optimate charger! Oh and i want to fit some michelin pr3's or avon storms, currently it has maxxis tyres but they dont have long left, maybe 1500-2000 miles.
Ok, so i got more worried about the missing red key...got some info of the bike (reg and VIN) and the really kind people at Yamaha UK technical department found out its an import from the USA...so no immobilizer, no red key! Get in! Does jump my insurance up a bit but oh well, i was almost gonna kick up a fuss about it given replacment lock sets and ECU are £1000 or thereabouts (info from yamaha there) to the dealer but no need now! Sweeeeeeeet!
Where you from mate ?

I'm in north london, spent alot of my biking time on the north circular road (a406)! Also familier with roads in sussex as my parents live on the coast, my dad has led me astray around the south east a few times! Cant say im a quick rider so gave up riding with more than 2 other people a while ago, i always felt i had to push on more than i was comfortable with...
Late spring there was some London area riders came up to mine, met some more ,set the tents up and went on a rideout with some Northeners,-Fizzy Pies doing, then rode some nice welsh roads.
Its not that far up here and the riding in Wales is brilliant, lots of coffee ,ice cream stops.
get up here sometime
