To do what you want; try the YouTube app.

YouTube us surprisingly good for music.

There is a free version of Spotify for mobiles and tablets, although they've put weird limits on certain things to encourage you to buy the full version, but it still works fine.
Saying that, I just use the radio stations on there, which are good for me at work.
You can make up your own playlists as well though.
Also, you can choose an artist of your choice, create a radio station and it will play similar music as well as chucking in songs by your artist quite frequently.
