Massive performance improvement - FZ8
#1

I've just fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3 to the Fazer and it has totally transformed the ride, handling and braking of the bike.

I had no idea that the OE tyres were so poor until I upgraded them today. The bike no longer falls into bends, it now 'rolls' and feels planted to the road. It doesn't shimmy over white lines and the rear suspension feels less 'loose' on choppy roads when banked over. I've had a few heart stopping moments especially on roundabouts when the front has lost grip in the wet but these things are incredible.

These are my initial thoughts having covered one hundred miles on un-scrubbed tyres in the wet. If these things last as well as the reviews suggest I'll be chuffed to bits.

Oh and no I don't work for Michelin.

I have these on my 600 and my FZ1 and I think they're good....had rosso 2's before which were definitely a little bit better in the dry but hey it's the UK and how often do we get caught out in the rain even when we think we're going out for a sunny ride and this is where the Pilots are also good so for UK weather I think they're the best compromise.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Fatwasp, what kind of milage did you get out of the MPR3s? or are you still on the first set?

My stock tyres are due for replacement and I'm looking at MPR3 or MPR4 but not sure if the 4s are worth the extra money..

They're supposed to do an extra 25% miles. if they're less than 25% more expensive, I'd go for it!

I had no idea the OE tyres were so poor either. When they wore out, I replaced with the same and still had no idea they were so poor. When they ran out of BT021s I used BT023s and still didn't realise they are so poor. Ive done 44,000 miles and still didn't realise they are so poor. I get 10,000 to 12,000 miles out of them, and new ones do feel nicer than worn out tyres as they aren't squared off.

I'm still on the first set mate. I replaced the OE tyres after 3,500miles. They had a pronounced, of centre 'V' shaped profile on the front and were squared-off at the rear. I'm 3,000miles into the MPR3s - travelling the same daily commute and the odd weekend scratch. There is no noticeable change in profile to the front or rear and no change in feel. They are great. I would replace like for like in the future. I don't think my ability would benefit from any marginal improvement from the MPR4's - but then again, I DIDN'T REALISE THAT THE OE TYRES WERE SO POOR. While I'm at it, how on earth do you manage to get 10,000 + miles from a set of tyres? That's a great return on your investment - fair play.

I don't commute/ride in towns so guess there is little stop/start action going on which I think is the main cause of tyre wear.

I found the same, as did a couple of friends who also have the same bike and use them for everything. Just didn't feel planted with Bridgestones, felt front was going to wash out, now fitted Angel St's which I used on my Fazer 1000 and bike is transformed, even done quick track days on it. Others have gone for the Michelins with the same result, false economy to fit such poor tyres to their new bikes by manufacturers, had the same with both R1's and changed them as soon as I was able, with dramatic improvement.

My original 021's with approx 4k on served me well at a recent track day never once causing me any concern ..... they are good road tyres in my opinion.
Still a pupil at the school of life ....

Whilst you are of course allowed an opinion fella, the 21s are quite well documented as not being the most popular - although this is greatly due to their strange wear habits after miles are put on. Might be that at a gentle 4k miles, you've not reached those issues yet!

Also just done the same. Ditched the OE bridgestone and fitted Dunlop Roadsmart IIs.

totally transformed and they inspire so much more confidence in the cold / damp conditions. Only had one small front slide on the Dunlops and that was in the first couple of miles of a ride and also involved some diesel. Compared to having at least one slide every time I went out in less than perfect conditions on the 021s, mostly on slow ish speed roundabouts, I'd says that's a pretty good improvement.
