Ok blokes, finally started work on sorting the dyna before my son gets it back for spring. Done the easy stuff first, like putting that horrible stock light back on, last job is paint. It was matt black, he prefers gloss. Tank was easy ( I'd bought a gloss one two years back, new in the box off e bay for £190, they list at summat like £600!!), done it yesterday, was a swine of a job as the fuel injector fuel pump is in the tank and has to be partially dismantled inside the tank through the hole in the top, then obviously re assembled vice versa)
Anyhoo, mudguards are still matt black, ( HD call it denim black) taking them off today to sort it. My question is this...if I simply spray the matt black with many coats of lacquer, will it be gloss? Or do I have to gloss black it first I'm picturing it coming out satin or summat, but I have never tried it before so I don't know. All help/ advice appreciated..
Anybody tried vinyl wrap? I suppose that's a possibility but I m thinking he will never change it so paint is more permanent. Could always leav it half and half..
Ogri, I dont believe you can just laqcuer over the top of matt paint to make it gloss, although I have never tried it admittedly. I have done some vinyl wrapping, some heat (hairdryer or hot air gun) is the key to preventing bubbles and keeping the vinyl pliable.
Oh, and if you do go down the vinyl road, buy the best stuff you can, not just cheap ebay crap...the proper vinyl moulds a lot better, the cheaper stuff is plasticky. (It was 3M Di-noc stuff I used in the past).

i assume it could be construed as quite offensive, if you are not a bloke?
You know for some reason I hadn't even considered the fact that there could potentially be women on this site? :eek

Do you want a bigger spade or maybe a bucket from a JCB :lol
Thanks guys, much appreciated the replies, and I'm really sorry if I came across as a sexist dinosaur to that burd. The lacquer straight over the top worked a treat ( see photos in another thread) I'll know next time
