Car Tyres, Again (Sorry)
#1
Hi Again Guys,

Quick question. I have found a great deal on some hoops for my car, and given money was a consideration on this purchase, I have to ask your collective opinion. My rims are 225, and the manufacturer recommendation is 225/45/17 91Y. I have found a set of 4 tyres that I want at a great price, but they are 215/45/17 91W. I know it is only 10mm a difference, and its not as if I drive to the limit of the car, or even close, so the Y/W wont make any difference. So am I safe to fit these? It is the last set in stock according to the website, so I sort of need to act on it, and want them to be here for Saturday as my mate is going to fit them for me. I would ask him this question, but he turns his phone off on a Sunday. I appreciate your feedback foccers Smile
Not quite sure what to do with my early mid-life crisis. Ideas on a post card to P.O.BOX 150...

Checking here http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html (about 2/3rds down the page) there's a difference of 27mm in the rolling circumference.  That's only 1.42% so at an indicated 70mph you'll actually be doing 69mph.  What you need to know is the actual rim width.  225 width tyres should be fitted to 7.5 to 9 inch rims whereas 215 should be fitted to 7 to 8.5 inch rims.  So unless you are currently on 9 inch rims, you should be OK.  Have a look at one of the wheels, on alloys the size is usually cast into them somewhere.
