I was halfway through a job yesterday when my cordless drill finally gave up on me. 18v bosch that I have had for about 6 years, did well really.

I didnt have any cash on me, but I djd have my argos card so I jumped on the bike and went to get a 'cheapy' drill from their limited stock. Now, I've always sworn by makita and bosch, but all they had in stock was a stanley fatmax 18v. It was in the catalogue for £150 with 2 lithium batteries, but when I checked the stock it said £99!

I didnt expect much from stanley, but I have just spent all afternoon drilling holes in brickwork and I am still on my 1st battery. The little drill has got plenty of torque and has even got metal gears, like dewalt used to have before they went all budget.

It feels well made and comfy in the hand, the case is nice and compact and the charging time is only 40mins.

Could be a little bargain!

Yup, dewalt used to be quality and stanley were always mid to low end tools. Not saying stanley are up there with the big boys, but its definitely a lot better than I was expecting for 99 quid.

If it's just the battery pack that's died then you can probably replace the cells... cheaper than buying a new drill.
When my brother's died the cheapest source of suitable cells turned out to be a battery pack for a model car... just dismantled it and rearranged the cells to match the layout of the old drill pack. Best of all, because battery technology has improved since his drill was made, the capacity is now about 50% higher than his original one. Smile
